Humanim

President and Chief Executive Officer

Central Maryland

Humanim - a human services organization dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals in Maryland and Delaware who face social or economic challenges by building pathways to economic equity, opportunity, and independence - seeks a visionary and entrepreneurial President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who can build upon the organization’s substantial record of accomplishments.

Since its inception, a willingness and ability to innovate to provide higher quality and more effective services have characterized the organization. These attributes have frequently led funders and other community partners to turn to Humanim to serve groups in greatest need. While its programs are varied, it has steadfastly remained committed to its belief that all human beings have potential and that work is transformative, with the goal of creating economic equity and opportunity for all. Humanim has experienced many years of success and growth under the leadership of Henry Posko, who will retire in 2020 after 41 years of faithful service to the organization – spreading its work throughout Central Maryland and into Delaware while establishing a strong reputation as an innovative yet consistent provider of services.

Starting as a vocational day program in a single county in 1971, today the organization has grown to offer 30 programs to more than 3,500 people a year in the areas of Human Services, Youth Services, Workforce Development and Social Enterprises. While the organization had to reduce programming and lay off some employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of telehealth and other virtual programming as well as creative pivoting on the part of its social enterprises has already enabled it to begin to hire back staff. Its projected budget for FY2020-21 is $21 million.

The next leader will bring a demonstrated commitment to the mission of Humanim, a record of programmatic vision and business savvy and will have proven experience leading an organization or unit of similar complexity. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with external relations, including forming and maintaining strategic partnerships, liaising with government agencies, managing in a complex regulatory environment, and representing an organization as its public face. Demonstrated success in working effectively with a board, building and sustaining employee engagement, championing diversity, inclusion and equity, participatory decision-making, and staff development are essential.
