Associate Vice President Institutional and Events Fundraising

The Associate Vice President of Development for Institutional and Events Fundraising (IEF) is a senior leader in the CHOP Foundation and reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer. Along with the AVPs for Individual Giving, Development Operations and Foundation Chief of Staff, lead the day-to-day operations of the CHOP Foundation.  The AVP for IEF is a proven principal fundraising strategist, confident leader and experienced people manager. S/he oversees three (3) programs representing approximately 30% of CHOP’s annual philanthropic revenues ($30 million in FY 19). Special events, community-based fundraising, corporate gifts, grants and sponsorship's as well as grants from regional and national foundations and cause marketing are important components of CHOP’s comprehensive and ambitious fundraising program. The AVP works closely with the EVP and his/her counterparts to develop and execute strategic plans reflecting best practices in philanthropy in support of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s priorities and goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Direct and supervise a team of directors overseeing the areas of Corporate Advancement, Foundation Advancement, Cause Marketing, Events Fundraising and the Children’s Miracle Network. Continuously build, manage and mentor this team to achieve their development goals and objectives and nurture their professional growth and success
  • Lead CHOP’s Corporate Council, comprised of 80+ C-suite Philadelphia leaders, into a new era of impact.
  • Develop and maintain philanthropic relationships with regional and national corporations and foundations for Hospital-wide priorities, including clinical services, community-based initiatives and research. Oversee preparation of compelling written proposal materials and presentations to prospects and donors, and implement appropriate stewardship strategies.
  • Establish and maintain excellent collaborative relationships with vice presidents, department chairs, center and institute directors, key faculty members and development officers to foster their involvement in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding corporate prospects, as well as planning and organizing special events. Key advisor to the EVP.
  • Develop and execute programmatic strategic plans, goals and budgets for each program area with individual Directors and work closely with the AVP, Individual Giving on collaborative fundraising strategies for executives whose companies support CHOP.

Required Education and Experience:

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree.

Required Experience: At least ten (10) years of related experience as a senior leader in a healthcare, academic, or nonprofit environment of similar complexity, serving in an administrative or development leadership capacity and inclusive of a leadership role in a major fundraising campaign (planning, implementation, management, and successful conclusion).

Preferred Education: Graduate degree
