Impact Evaluation & Warrior Research Director

Job Summary

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Impact Evaluation & Warrior Research Director leads and oversees the Impact Evaluation and Warrior Research teams in support of WWP organizational priorities related to program impact and outcome measurement, i.e., key performance indicators (KPIs) for WWP programs, as well as research strategies and initiatives related to generating new insights about those WWP serves.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee and lead the Impact Evaluation team.
  • Oversee and lead the Warrior Research team, including all facets of the Annual Warrior Survey.
  • Generate a new warrior data strategy which influences how WWP collects, stores, manages, shares, and uses warrior and family member data and ensure appropriate execution to meet the organization’s strategic needs and objectives.
  • Build and maintain productive and collaborative business relationships with stakeholders across the organization and serve as trusted partner to leadership and program teams.
  • Provide strategic direction for internal research initiatives and external research collaboration.
  • Convene and collaborate with researchers across other Veteran’s Services Organizations (VSOs,) agencies, and institutions.
  • Work collaboratively with Executive team and Program leadership to influence data driven solutions and culture.
  • Provide strategic direction to the team for enterprise-wide data sharing at scale, e.g., via meetings, print and digital materials, for a variety of audiences. Inform business decisions and communicate data clearly. Collaborate with marketing and program leadership as needed.
  • Lead the collaboration between the program evaluation team and program leadership to develop and monitor progress toward strategic plan goals.
  • Oversee reporting and analytics prepared by the metrics team and ensure consistency and quality control of data communicated internally and externally. Ensure data, deliverables, processes, and output are accurate and logical. Ensure accurate and appropriate recordkeeping and documentation of processes and procedures.
  • Lead analysis and interpretation of complex data and generate data driven insights. Identify relevant data points to communicate to external audiences for marketing materials, executive speaking engagements, and other external facing events. Lead the impact evaluation team in employing data visualization techniques and storytelling with data.
  • Evaluate impact of WWP programs through visionary, aspirational thinking including how data is used to make decisions and understanding the inter-relatedness of data points captured and utility of the data.
  • Serve as liaison between executive leadership and the Impact Evaluation and Warrior Research teams.
  • Understand and explain organizational priorities and direction and translate into actions and processes to support goals attainment.
  • Support innovation within the team and challenge them to take service offerings to the next level.
  • Lead the team to identify opportunities for strategies, tactics, and tools to generate efficiency and consistency.
  • Foster a collaborative and cohesive internal team who works together to meet organizational objectives and deadlines, while also sharing learnings and best practices.
  • Represent WWP at external meetings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Working understanding of best practices to collect, store, manage, share, and use data to inform strategy implementation.
  • Demonstrated working understanding of data analytics and reporting, and statistical testing using statistical software to support the team and the work.
  • Working knowledge of online survey platforms and survey development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and innovatively, based on continuous learning and understanding of technology and trends, and share to take the metrics team to the next level. Demonstrated inquisitiveness and listening skills to understand the ‘why’ behind trends and changes.

Education & Experience Requirements
  • Master’s degree in business, accounting, economics, finance, or data analytics. Equivalent combination of education, experience, training, or certification may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Seven years of experience working with data, analytics, interpreting complex data, or reporting data for decision-making.
  • Seven years of staff management experience.
  • Five years of experience with executive, C-suite, or governmental official briefings.
