William James College is seeking an entrepreneurial and strategic-minded Director of Foundation and Corporate Grants. Reporting to the Director of Development and working with the President and other College leaders, this position is responsible for identifying, capturing, and securing institutional grants and cultivating other grant making and sponsorship entities. As the person responsible for grant-seeking activities at William James College, this position will serve as the lead relationship manager for foundations and corporate grant makers. 

 

Proposal Development and Submission

  • Identify philanthropic and corporate grant opportunities
  • Design and manage a grant development program that sustains and grows annual grant revenues based on William James College’s strategic priorities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate internal and external working groups involved in proposal/program design (external groups may include representatives from schools, state and community agencies, employers, and workforce development agencies).
  • Keep abreast and notify senior leadership of changing state, federal and private foundation grant standards and proposal guidelines.
  • Write, edit, and submit competitive grant proposals that include needs analysis, goals, objectives, activities, evaluation strategies, timelines, a project budget, and supporting data.
  • Manage and assemble all materials for grant submissions including, but not limited to, proposal forms, concept papers, budgets, letters of support, and memorandum of agreements.
  • Develop in conjunction with the budget office, accurate budgets and financial plans/documentation.
  • Coordinate the timely execution of grant submissions.
  • Ensure each project or program meets all proposal conditions and grant requirements.
  • Design and implement regular workshops for faculty, staff, and other relevant stakeholders on identifying grant opportunities and writing grants.
  • Develop and maintain a library of grant opportunities relevant to the work of William James College Faculty/staff.
  • Provide ongoing departmental support. Some evening and weekend work required.

Research

  • Identify new institutional funding opportunities that will help to advance William James College’s mission, strategic plan, and/or fundraising priorities.
  • Maintain proactive communication with public and private grantmakers to monitor and keep the College information about relevant trends, issues, and opportunities.
  • Monitor on a regular various databases and available resources to identify calls for proposals from viable public and private grantmakers; create and manage a grant opportunity calendar.

Grant Stewardship and Management

  • Facilitate the transition from the grant development/award phase to the implementation phase in collaboration with the project leader, appropriate College leader, participating faculty and staff, the associate vice president of research, and the vice president of administration and finance.
  • Assist with development of implementation policies and practices.
  • Maintain record of pending, funded, and declined proposals in Raisers Edge as well as ongoing relationship development activities with funding sources and their representatives.
  • Steward grantmakers throughout the grant period, including extending appropriate invitations for site visits and/or attendance at special events and continuing education programs as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with the President and relevant college leaders ensure that grant-funded projects and reports are in compliance with all state, federal, foundation and other regulatory policies, procedures, and statutory authority.
  • Prepare, provide assistance with, and/or edit reports submitted to funding agencies as part of funding requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from an accredited college or university (Master’s preferred).
  • Substantial years as a primary writer and editor in development of federal, state, and private grant applications for higher education or community-based organizations as evidenced by writing portfolio and history of funding success.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; must possess excellent editing skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced and confidential work environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-priority tasks and responsibilities to meet established deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and ability to research grants electronically and through print sources.
  • Excellent computer skills including, but not limited to, MS Excel, MS Office Suite, Powerpoint, database management and data search tools.
  • Understanding and experience with grant management/administration support.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the external community, including governmental agencies and nongovernmental organizations relating to higher education and grant-funded projects.
  • Experience and proficiency in leading diverse work teams comprised of internal and external representatives and in facilitating meetings.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or understanding working with individuals of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.
  • Proven ability to apply a strategic mindset to the task of identifying and pursuing new funding sources.
  • Experience and/or the ambition to exponentially grow a grants program.
