The Opportunity | Fort Campbell Historical Foundation

The Fort Campbell Historical Foundation is a public, non-profit, 501(c)3 educational foundation established in 1992 to support the soldiers and their families as well as the ongoing development of a museum that honors the history of the U.S. Army’s Fort Campbell, located astride the Kentucky–Tennessee border, home to the 101st Airborne Division, the 5th Special Forces Group and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

The FCHF will build a new Wings of Liberty Military Museum which will serve as a tribute to soldier patriots – sons, daughters, husbands and wives – whose extraordinary feats protect the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans and to pass traditions of courage, leadership, character and service to country to all generations.

The Position| Chief Development Officer

The Chief Development Officer will lead Fort Campbell Historical Foundation’s philanthropic outreach with overall responsibility for strategically designing, planning, and initiating its development programs.  Specific responsibilities for this position include:

  • Develops and directs a comprehensive program of charitable giving growth overseeing major gifts, planned giving, annual fund, constituent relations, grant writing, capital campaigns, event planning and donor communications.
  • Collaborates with the President and Board of Trustees on all development activities and effectively engages board and volunteer leaders in making fundraising contacts.
  • Develops a strong infrastructure for fundraising by expanding ties with corporate, philanthropic, and community leaders to join the campaign vision to expand Fort Campbell’s museum and educational programs.
  • Provides direction to the Foundation’s marketing, branding, public relations, media, and strategic print and online communications.
  • Prepares fundraising materials, donor proposals, and grant applications to corporations, foundations, government and other charitable enterprises.
  • Prepares and monitors cost effective budgets for development activity subject to the approval of the President and the Board of Trustees.
  • Maintains currency in database and communications technology and the environmental landscape of institutional advancement and fund development.

The Chief Development Officer must be an experienced fundraiser and manager with a proven track record of success in development – having an acute sense of strategy at the individual donor level, as well as significant capital campaign and gift marketing experience.

The Chief Development Officer will have compelling personal qualities of integrity, leadership, and outstanding communications skills – especially as characterized by the ability to listen carefully, coach and mentor others, and employ an entrepreneurial nature.

The Chief Development Officer must understand and embrace the mission, vision, and values of the Fort Campbell Historical Foundation and the communities it serves.

Qualities and Requirements

  • A minimum of four years of increasing success in fundraising, preferably with demonstrated success in museum and education development.
  • Experience in planning, implementing, and managing annual and/or capital campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of prospects and donors across the country, initiating, cultivating and closing on major gift solicitations.
  • Adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrated perseverance, optimistic and positive attitude, and sensitivity to needs of the donors.
  • Proven management and administrative skills, as demonstrated by experience in effectively leading and mentoring others.
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, engage and inspire others, and develop a rapport with many diverse people and groups.
  • Lead and direct fundraising and community events.
  • Preferred location will be considered to facilitate contacts beyond the greater Tennessee-Kentucky region.
  • Availability to travel.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
