Assistant Director of Individual Giving
ProPublica, a nonprofit investigative newsroom, is searching for an Assistant Director of Individual Giving. This is a unique opportunity for a development professional to play a key role in a small but growing development team at a transformational moment for the organization. Reporting to the Vice President of Development, this new position will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individuals giving between $1,000-$24,999 in support of ProPublica’s mission. This position will be based in New York City.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and grow a portfolio of
approximately 100 major donors giving between $10,000-$24,999.
Develop and manage a pipeline of
major donor prospects. Analyze research to identify the best
prospects in our donor file, and implement a system to qualify,
cultivate and upgrade donors.
Manage ProPublica’s Business Advisory
Council, a group of donors and advisors giving $10,000+.
Collaborate with the Director of Development for Local Initiatives
to develop and implement a national strategy for the Business
Manage the Publisher’s Circle, our
program for donors giving between $1,000-$9,999. Collaborate with
the Director of Online Giving to steward and solicit this group via
mail and email and to proactively identify prospects for increased
Support the Vice President of
Development and the President in managing their portfolios of major
Work with the Director of Development
and Development Manager to create and maintain a moves management
system and to generate reports in the Salesforce
Track and steward a small but growing
number of legacy donors.
Draft and send gift acknowledgments
to major donors.
Draft reports and proposals to
individuals and small family foundations. Collaborate with the
Director of Development to maintain up-to-date report and proposal
Out-of state-travel to cultivate and
solicit donors will eventually be required, once it is again safe
to do so (but this is not expected until 2021 at the earliest)
Other duties, as assigned.
5-7+ years of progressive experience
in individual fundraising.
Proven track record raising
Exceptional written and communication
Ability to prioritize work and
allocate resources to maximum efficiency.
Ability to work collaboratively and
build strong and effective internal and external
Knowledge of moves management and
cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Experience working with executive
staff, board members and major gift volunteers.
Knowledge of Salesforce or other
donor management software desired.
