Schmidt Futures in partnership with Rhodes Trust

Appointment of Executive Director, Rise Program

Schmidt Futures and the Rhodes Trust last year announced the Rise Program, which is the anchor program in a $1 billion commitment to advancing talent around the world. Supported by Eric and Wendy Schmidt and delivered in partnership with the Rhodes Trust, Rise will recruit annually 100 extraordinary young people, aged 15 to 17, who will receive a lifetime of support as they work to serve others. These young people will hail from around the world, and will participate in a residential fellowship focused on public service, leadership development and supporting their communities.

The program will bring together students, teachers, regional partners, parents and institutions across a broad range of sectors and disciplines to help address the most pressing global issues of the day. Rise will have a strong focus on co-creation across these groups. Because Rise will provide uniques resources to all who apply, not just the “winners,” the program has the potential to grow exponentially, developing a global network of thousands of participants and providing opportunities for lifelong learning, support for transition into higher education or career, social investment funds and innovation prizes. Rise will create a platform for discourse and debate, as well as provide continual support for participants as they strive to serve their communities.

We are now seeking an inaugural Executive Director to build on this vision and help make it a reality. The incoming Executive Director will be familiar with working with talented, international and diverse student cohorts and young people. They will have a demonstrable commitment to the aims of the Rise Program, to diversity, inclusion, public service and life-long learning. The successful candidate will also be experienced in program design and development, have a strong record of teamwork and team building, and the experience and ability to develop meaningful partnerships and networks.

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver who will support the Rhodes Trust and Schmidt Futures in identifying the widest possible field of qualified candidates and assist in their assessment against the requirements for the role.
