International Planned Parenthood Federation Western Hemisphere Region (IPPFWHR)

Director of Marketing and Development

Flexible/all locations considered

IPPFWHR is going through an exciting period of growth and transition. In 2019, IPPFWHR began a process to transform itself from a family planning organization established in the 1950s to a 21st-century feminist organization. Underpinning all aspects of this transformation is IPPFWHR’s commitment to working within an ecosystem of feminist organizations and movements that have the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls at the center of its mission.

Within IPPFWHR’s ecosystem are 24 autonomous partners across Latin America and the Caribbean. IPPFWHR’s role in this ecosystem is to be an orchestrator of change and connecting fabric among partners, other key actors and social justice movements, such as racial and ethnic justice and disability movements, and international platforms and to serve as a multiplier of innovation through the creation of new strategies and capacity sharing. The most recent example of this has been IPPFWHR’s feminist response to COVID-19 which focuses on keeping clinics open to provide essential sexual and reproductive health services to women and girls, advocating for universal health care and improved social protections and advancing service delivery models like digital health

In 2019, IPPFWHR through its partners helped provide more than seven million people with over 41 million health services, including contraception, breast and cervical cancer screenings, HIV/STI prevention and treatment services, and safe abortion. Eight of every 10 people receiving care at IPPFWHR partners are women, six of every 10 come from poor and underserved communities, and more than a third are youth ages 10-24. IPPFWHR also contributed to 36 progressive advocacy achievements across the region, including the decriminalization of abortion in the state of Oaxaca in Mexico, the registration of essential abortion-related medicines in Chile, and the provision of minimum wage to families affected by Zika.

In the past year, IPPFWHR has undergone a significant organizational transformation in reimagining the roadmap for its future, recognizing that feminist organizations that aim to advance reproductive justice and uphold the rights of women and girls must be built to respond to an ever-accelerating horizon of opportunity and crisis. This transformation is highlighted by a comprehensive brand refresh impacting all internal and external messaging and materials that will occur in 2021. At the same time, COVID, the economic crisis and the global movement for racial justice are impacting IPPFWHR’s work and the way it communicates. In this context, IPPFWHR is looking to establish a new, sophisticated and multi-channel digital communications strategy to expand its advocacy efforts, increase its fundraising revenue, and increase its brand recognition. This effort will serve to further streamline and optimize the organization’s electronic communications platforms in order to compliment an already robust individual gifts program.

IIPFWHR is looking to define a unique digital presence to more deeply engage current online supporters and map out customized outreach strategies to captivate new audiences, activists and feminist partners and other rights-based communities and allies across the region, to enable the organization to meet ambitious fundraising goals.

IPPFWHR is aiming to pull together its communications efforts across the US, Canada, and Latin America and the Caribbean into a single strategy. This important senior management role will participate in the development of that strategy and will be the lead responsible for integrating the US-Canada program into expansion efforts across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Reporting to the Chief Development and Strategic Partnerships Officer (CDSPO), the Director of Marketing and Development (Director) plays a central role in a 15-member Development and Communications team that is on a strong growth trajectory in fundraising in a pivotal moment of organizational transformation. The Director provides strategic oversight for all aspects of IPPFWHR’s marketing and individual fundraising program, and oversees a medium size team of very dedicated fundraisers focused on individual and planned giving, marketing, operations, and digital communications, in order to achieve ambitious fundraising goals over the next five years that advances and delivers on IPPFWHR’s organizational vision.

The Director of Marketing and Development will prioritize equity as a driver for IPPFWHR activities. This leader will embrace the organization’s governing principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in hiring, mentorship, teambuilding, network activities, and stakeholder engagement. The Director will actively focus on maintaining equity into structures, systems, and processes for employees and the communities that IPPFWHR serves. The Director will bring expertise, an innovative and open mindset, and a commitment to inclusive practice that values different backgrounds and life experiences.
