The Foundation provides funding, leadership, expertise and insight in both the U.S. and Israel, with offices in Boston and Rehovet.

We seek to publicize broadly what we do in our programs and how we do it, in order to inspire the Jewish community and beyond to pursue full inclusion and to encourage strategic philanthropy.

The Foundation maintains close working relationships with its program partners and grantees. Unlike some other foundations, it does not accept unsolicited applications for support. The Foundation issues an invitation to partner only after a thorough analysis indicates shared vision, innovation, organizational strength and a willingness to closely collaborate. It seeks out other major funders with which to partner and promotes broad information sharing about successes in its mission. Foundation staff are very involved in program development and remain very involved in major programs funded over multiple years. Single-year and pilot programs are also thoroughly monitored.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Mental Health/Inclusion Officer is an experienced and creative professional that can capitalize on the important mission and history of RFF as well as strategically enhance the organization's programs and grant activities. The Mental Health/Inclusion Officer reports to the Deputy Director.

  • Improve RFF’s ability to engage stakeholders in promoting disability inclusion nationally and globally, and lead efforts to grow a strategic local mental health project portfolio
  • Grow effective and efficient programing and forward-looking strategic development of the fields of inclusion and mental health
  • Lead all implementation, evaluation, and ongoing improvement of RFF mission to advance inclusion and mental health
  • Lead all educational outreach and research on inclusion and mental health
  • Developing quality programs and initiatives and delivering at a fast pace.
  • Interacting with the disability community and the broader field of inclusion in the nonprofit and for-profit sector
  • Working together with the advocacy team, Deputy Director and Director to ensure ongoing progress and development of the RFF mission to advance inclusion and mental health
  • Serve as a liaison with the local community, corporations, nonprofit organizations, and the general public to leverage the field of inclusion within RFF, define and achieve programmatic goals
  • Accomplish program objectives by selecting and overseeing consultants, community leaders and other business professionals; communicating expectations; planning, monitoring and appraising on behalf of RFF
  • Provides strategic guidance on how to best leverage Inclusion and mental health programs and initiatives
  • Monitor diversity, inclusion and mental health activities and policy in the broader inclusion field
  • Coordinate ongoing alignment of RFF strategy with the field of inclusion / mental health
  • Provide support to all program officers and team members to enhance the immersion of an inclusion /mental health strategy across all fields
  • Provide direct and indirect communication and outreach, and to requests and coordinate feedback from key service populations to inform program development and improvement
  • Represents the organization at professional conferences, association meetings, community meetings, media requests and related events where appropriate
  • Drafts program budgets and manages program expense budgets
  • Play a key role in tracking the progress of RFF inclusion awardees, assessing their impact, and sourcing further opportunities for investment of Foundation resources
  • Assists in planning grants schedules and strategies and supports annual review and reporting process
  • Apply the Foundation’s investment philosophy objectively and consistently across all of the candidate organizations being considered, while at the same time continually raising the bar in key areas, like assessing impact, year over year
  • Provide ongoing communication to all stakeholders with regards to program outcomes
  • Collaborate with advocacy and communications staff to produce newsletters, brochures, information pieces, and website content, creative content, etc.
  • Positively contributes to the learning and collaborative spirit of an international foundation
  • Participates in the Ruderman Family Foundation programs and always represents organization in best light

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • At a minimum, MA degree required
  • Demonstrated experience in working toward positive social change
  • Knowledge of disability inclusion and mental health
  • 5 years of experience in project management
  • 1-2 years of experience in staff management
  • Advanced research and writing skills
  • 5 years of experience in strategic development and planning for nonprofit organizations
  • Experience in budget development and fiscal management

  • Strong oral communication skills and experience in media engagement
  • Experience developing, building and coordinating national and/or international programs
  • Ability to work in a family, small-office environment
