Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), manages the stewardship of current leadership donors and the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective leadership donors to the current capital campaign and to support annual unrestricted and restricted goals. The Senior Leadership Gifts Officer will focus primarily on individual donor visits, developing long-term relationships built on a firm understanding of donors' interests, passions, and values. The focus of this position is on securing six and seven figure gifts for program, capital and endowment needs. The incumbent must thoroughly understand, and be able to articulate, the Asian Art Museum’s mission, vision, culture, values, history, key stakeholders, programs, and finances.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

  • Manages a personal portfolio of 125-150 individual donors and prospects, as well as actively builds the major donor pipeline for c gifts supporting restricted, unrestricted, and endowment gifts. Utilizes donor development strategies (in-person visit, committee support, timely communications, cultivation events, volunteer opportunities) to build relationships with high-value prospects, leveraging existing donors/volunteers in the cultivation process; identifies and implements additional opportunities to develop and retain donors.
  • Personally solicits 50% of gifts at the $250,000 level and above utilizing personalized cultivation and solicitation strategies based on donor’s philanthropic focus and interests. Expected to spend 60% of time outside of office cultivating and soliciting prospects. Works closely with Executive Director in partnering on cultivation and solicitation.
  • Fully briefs volunteers, executives and program staff for all interactions with donors, including research information, goals of meeting, and talking points.
  • Effectively articulates in written and verbal communications the mission and impact of the museum to deepen relationships with donors, prospects, and high-level supporters, as well as external stakeholders; maintains a thorough and accurate understanding of the museum’s programs and funding priorities to effectively connect supporters to funding needs.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ten (10) years of direct experience managing fundraising portfolios with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $250,000 and above
  • At least three years’ experience as a major gift solicitor in a capital campaign
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including ability to listen, observe and interact well with diverse individuals and groups
  • Strong work ethic and self-discipline to work independently. Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in a timely manner to complete assignment when faced with many deadlines and competing requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to meet financial goals for major gift giving; think strategically and creatively; persuade others
  • Ability to demonstrate the highest ethical standards, empathetic disposition and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude; convey sensitivity to the needs of donors
  • Demonstrated writing ability
  • Capable of inspiring support from a variety of constituent groups
  • Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; donor database experience, knowledge of Raiser’s Edge highly desired
  • Strong sense of fundraising ethics and respect for confidentiality of donor information
  • Professional manner, and ability to represent the museum
  • Ability to travel around San Francisco Bay Area 60% of the week
  • Availability to work nights and weekends as needed for events or deadlines
  • Knowledge of Bay Area philanthropy is desirable
  • Knowledge of Asian art and culture a plus
