About the position

 

The Senior Accountant is responsible for essential accounting and financial functions in accounting period closing, vendor maintenance, reconciliations, and audit and tax reporting. Reporting to the Financial Accounting Manager, this role also provides  support to activities required for effective accounting operations and internal controls.

 

Location: Open (Virginia preferred)

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Month and Year-End Closing:

  • Ensure general ledger account balances are accurate and in compliance with internal controls and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and maintain roll-forward schedules.
  • Record monthly amortization/depreciation journal entries for prepaids, deferred rents, and fixed assets.
  • Record monthly release from restrictions entries and maintain net assets roll- forward schedules.
  • Complete monthly bank and investment accounts reconciliations and record related journal entries.
  • Reconcile U.S. and International payroll and record monthly journal entries.
  • Analyze and research significant variances on balance sheets accounts from prior periods.

 

Vendor Maintenance:

  • Maintain accurate and updated vendor records.
  • Ensure vendor compliance documents are complete, accurate, and current.
  • Run OFAC validation processes and follow through the escalation process Audit, Budget, and Tax Filings.
  • Support preparing client prepared schedules for external audits, IRS form 990, etc. as directed by the Financial Accounting Manager.
  • Assist with annual international, federal, state, and local regulatory filings.
  • Support legal with state business and charitable registration filings Other Areas:.
  • Setup and maintain delegation of authority in the HR system.
  • Assist with the development, documentation, and implementation of business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Research, explain and interpret applicable accounting policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Assist with special projects and provide ad hoc reporting and analysis as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Desired Qualifications

 

  • BS/BA in Accounting with a minimum of 3-5 years’ applicable experience.
  • Excellent computer skills; advanced MS Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software.
  • Practical knowledge of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Prior working experiences in global and multi-entity non-profit organization preferred.
  • Experience working with a Globally distributed workforce and ability to work across time zone.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
  • Strong attention to detail, demonstrated integrity and professionalism.
  • Must be proficient and able to thrive in a fast paced, global environment.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills both written and verbal

  • Ability to stay current with industry trends and technology developments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability interact positively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
