MISSION

Equity through economic opportunity.

OVERVIEW

Founded in 1978, as one of the oldest global private equity managers, Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) invests and builds better businesses – earning the reputation as a preferred partner of management teams around the world. Joe Rice and Martin Dubilier created a firm that today employs an active ownership model to the businesses it acquires. Through a combination of investment and operating skills, the firm enhances the value of each of its acquired businesses. Today, the Firm has ~170 employees, offices in New York and London, manages ~$36 billion of assets and 30+ portfolio companies, and is widely recognized as a leader in private equity investing. CD&R’s shared sense of purpose and values guides the commitments the firm makes to its commercial partners, the communities in which they operate, and its investors.

In October 2020, CD&R announced the formation of a new nonprofit foundation to direct and support the firm’s ongoing charitable investments and activities, both through capital donations and public service. The Foundation will represent the firm’s deeply-held values of advancing economic opportunity and equity to improve the plight of underserved populations in our local communities. With anticipated investment of $10 to $15 million annually, the Foundation will explore and support building pathways to greater economic security in vulnerable communities. It is anticipated that a portion of the investment will be directed by the Foundation to mission-aligned organizations in New York and London, the cities in which the Firm’s two offices are located. The balance would be allocated to “catalyzing and co-investing” in the mission-aligned philanthropic efforts of the Firm’s 30+ portfolio companies in their local communities.
