Senior Philanthropy Officer

Schedule of Hours: M-F FT, weekends as needed
Position Remote Eligible: During the pandemic the role may be performed remote, however, THIS ROLE IS BASED OUT OF SAN MATEO, CA, AND THE SELECTED INDIVIDUAL MUST BE LOCAL TO THE AREA

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse (CORA), is the only agency in San Mateo County providing crisis intervention and supportive services to survivors of domestic violence and their children, seeks an Senior Philanthropy Officer to further CORA’s mission through supporting the individual and corporate philanthropy program and helping to build the base of major donors.
As the CORA Senior Philanthropy Officer, you will have the unique opportunity to grow a strong donor community in the region. As part of the CORA team, you will join a passionate group of professionals who are dedicated to ensuring individuals around the world have access to crisis intervention and supportive services. The majority of your time will be spent developing a robust pipeline of prospects and engaging high-net-worth individuals to successfully cultivate and solicit them to support CORA efforts to expand our major donor base and increase giving from current supporters. You will also represent CORA at key industry events.
- Lead all fundraising efforts with a target of $1 million dollars per fiscal year; this includes individual giving, major donors and corporate sponsorships.
- Build and manage a robust donor portfolio and prospect pipeline focusing on major donors and corporate philanthropy.
- Develop, implement and execute strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward current and prospective major donors in the SF Bay Area, especially San Mateo County.
- Support the planning and execution of CORA cultivation events and appeals in partnership with other staff and as needed
- Manage the agency’s donor database (currently Bloomerang) and supervise administrative staff on completing daily tasks associated with donor data management.
- Coordinate with the Marketing Officer on appeals and social media as it relates to individual giving campaigns.
- Prepare written materials including case for support presentations, major donor and corporate sponsorship correspondence, and stewardship reports
- Present updates and metrics on accomplishments and projections to the Executive Director, Board of Directors and CORA leadership teams.
- Coordinate with the Finance Department to ensure accurate recording of incoming and projected funds and preparation of financial reports as required by donors.
- Participate in CORA team meetings and the Board of Directors’ Fund Development Committee meetings.
- Communicate our mission, programs and impact to various constituencies, including representing CORA at relevant community meetings and events
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Minimum five (5) years successful experience in major gift fundraising, including cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts of $10,000 and above from high-net-worth individuals, preferably for a non-profit engaged in similar issues.
- Proven track record in, and excited by the challenge of, building up a major donor program and growing revenue through qualifying and closing gifts from new high-net-worth individual donors
- Successful in developing and instituting cultivation and solicitation strategies to engage and increase giving from donors
- Ability to understand the needs and interests of donors to develop deep, meaningful connections with the organization
- Experience using donor tracking systems to advance the goals of major donor programs, and the capacity and willingness to learn new systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks at a time
- Integrity, and the comfort and ability needed to gain the trust and confidence of supporters and stakeholders
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment across multiple programs and departments
- Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written
- Excellent problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, commitment to results, attention to detail, and solutions-oriented
- Willingness and ability to travel locally, as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field

CORA History and Overview
CORA has provided services to survivors of intimate partner abuse for nearly 40 years. Our programs include Crisis Intervention Services, including a 24-hour hotline, collaboration with law enforcement, emergency shelter options, and supportive counseling. Family Support Services provides mental health therapy, supportive/transitional housing, and a children’s program. CORA has robust legal services for survivors of domestic violence and provides educational workshops about the dynamics of domestic violence and healthy relationship skills.
