Established in 2009, the Institute for Public Health Innovation (IPHI) is a regional non-profit organization that develops multi-sector partnerships and innovative solutions to improve the public’s health and well-being across Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. IPHI’s work strengthens health systems and policy, enhances conditions that promote health, and strengthens government and community capacity to ensure equitable health opportunities for all. IPHI is the official designated public health institute serving the region as recognized by the National Network of Public Health Institutes.

The Institute for Public Health Innovation (IPHI) is currently recruiting a Development Director to manage fundraising and resource development activities. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, will see opportunity in shaping and creating the development strategy of a mission-focused organization, and has a proven track record of achieving fundraising targets and goals. The Development Director will be responsible for developing IPHI’s fundraising strategy, identifying private and government grant and contract opportunities, convening and leading proposal writing teams, cultivating a donor base, and identifying new organizational approaches to generating revenue.

The Development Director position requires a proven, forward-thinking, and dynamic professional to provide proactive leadership and vision in developing new and innovative fundraising strategies. This includes having excellent analytical, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills; extensive experience with non-profit business development; leadership abilities, and sound judgment. Knowledge of the public health field is strongly preferred. COMPENSATION

This is a full-time, exempt position with competitive benefits and an anticipated salary range of $80-95K, commensurate with experience.

LOCATION

Job location is flexible within the region. IPHI has offices in Washington, DC; Largo, MD; and Richmond, VA. During to the COVID-19 pandemic, this employee can work remotely.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Within the first 90 days, develop a comprehensive business development plan for the organization guided by IPHI’s strategic plan and programmatic priorities. The plan should include an analysis of IPHI’s market and competitors, current and potential customers, industry trends, and short and long-term metrics for success (including revenue targets)
  • Evaluate the business development plan methodology and key performance targets regularly
  • Proactively implement the plan and identify funding opportunities that align with IPHI’s mission
  • Create and maintain a system to track business relationships and funding opportunities
  • Convene internal and external teams to vet and respond to funding opportunities
  • Lead and assist with proposal writing
  • Assure the timely submission of high-quality proposals that align with funder guidelines
  • Research prospective individual and corporate donors and develop strategies to cultivate those relationships
  • Collaborate with communications and program teams to develop marketing materials
  • Collaborate with staff on the planning and execution of special events
  • Maintain ongoing communications with private and corporate donors
  • Prepare reports for CEO and Board of Directors


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least eight years of successful non-profit fundraising experience. Proven experience creating and leading the fundraising strategy for a mission-driven organization.
  • Track record of success in fundraising, grant writing and proposal development
  • Experience coordinating grant-writing teams and partnerships
  • Experience with government, corporate and foundation funding sources
  • Experience in professional fundraising/development to include applied knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations
  • Excellent writing, editing and proof-reading skills
  • Broad technology skills and knowledge relevant to the position (business, communications, collaboration and fundraising tools).
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to balance multiple competing priorities and to track multiple projects/programs tasks
  • Ability to research and quickly adapt relevant, emerging and existing evidence-base practices and models for use in project design and proposals
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills, with ability to engage, inspire, build credibility and engender trust with diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse partners and stakeholders
  • Trustworthy, ethical, and authentic in all situations.
  • Knowledge of public health and health equity and demonstrated ability to integrate these concepts into grant proposals and other fundraising strategies
