The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Accounting and Financial Reporting Director leads all accounting and financial reporting activities and ensures effective systems, procedures, and internal controls and accurate and timely financial reporting and safeguarding of WWP assets.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure annual consolidated financial statements and disclosures are accurate, timely and prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Ensure all monthly internal financial reports are accurate and delivered timely.
  • Ensure all relevant state and federal financial and tax filings, including the annual IRS Form 990, are accurate, compliant, and filed within required reporting deadlines.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate to the finance organization the development of new accounting standards, interpretations, and emerging guidance, including current and future impact on the organization.
  • Oversee management and reconciliation of all accounts, ledgers and subledgers.
  • Document and maintain accounting policies and procedures and ensure compliance with existing accounting literature.
  • Establish and manage the development, documentation, and implementation of internal controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee all accounting and financial reporting technology, ensuring all systems are adequately maintained and kept current.
  • Foster and maintain key relationships throughout the organization and facilitate teamwork across departments.
  • Lead annual external audit, coordinating internal resources and external audit staff.
  • Develop team bench strength via recruiting, training and coaching.
  • Lead continuous improvement within the accounting team.
  • Assist senior leadership with special projects.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.
 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of financial accounting standards, GAAP. and IRS 501(c)(3) regulations.
  • Strong financial reporting and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate financial information with non-financial team members in a meaningful manner.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills. Ability to build and align successful teams and coach for growth.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, team environment with the ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature and flexible manner, and build effective working relationships with team members.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner. Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High energy level. Self-starter.

 EXPERIENCE

 Requirements:

  • Seven years of general accounting experience.
  • Five years of staff management experience in either a public accounting or large corporate environment.
 Preferences:

  • Ten years of general accounting experience.
  • Three years of experience working in a nonprofit organization.
 EDUCATION

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business with a concentration in accounting. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, or experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
 Preferences:

  • Master’s degree in business, accounting, or finance.
 CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURE

 Requirements:

  • Certified Public Accountant
