This job reports to the Director of Philanthropic Communications in the Development Division of PPFA. Philanthropic Communications partners across the Development Division to advance fundraising in a rigorous and competitive landscape, to inspire donors with compelling and creative collateral and messages, and to cultivate and steward meaningful relationships with donors that connect them to the mission and impact of the organization. Purpose
  • The Development Division is seeking a Stewardship Writer to serve on the Philanthropic Communications team. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropic Communications, the Stewardship Writer will collaborate and support the development of strategic cultivation and stewardship materials. Together, the Philanthropic Communications team designs editorial, creative, and event experiences for major donors and prospects, as well as other supporters, including mid-level donors, and planned giving donors.
Delivery
  • In coordination with the Director, proactively identify opportunities to strengthen fundraising efforts among principal and major donors through new and existing tools/resources, such as stewardship materials, campaign-specific collateral, effective messaging, talking points, and presentations.
  • Proactively identify and recommend content for, and contribute to the review process of, planned and breaking news emails to principal and major donors.
  • Stay abreast of PPFA’s initiatives, program launches, outcomes, current events especially related to sexual and reproductive health and rights, and other timely content.
  • Draft and maintain talking points and messaging for gift officers on breaking news, organizational priorities, and key topics of interest to donors.
  • Draft talking points and remarks for the Chief Development Officer and other key leaders.
  • Assist in managing and executing donor briefing calls, scripting talking points, and writing a summary of each call.
  • Draft and/or manage the editorial process of fundraising appeal letters for major donors.
  • Draft content for and oversee the production of political fundraising materials.
  • Support rapid-response messaging and materials for federation-wide Development staff, as needed.
  • Review materials through a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) lens. On-going commitment and professional development in DEI practices is a must.
  • Periodically update acknowledgment letter templates for the Principal and Major Gifts team, and review templates of other Development divisions (such as Direct Response and Planned Giving) for accuracy and consistency.
Engagement
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with gift officers and other key staff to gather insight into donors' motivations for support in order to personalize cultivation and stewardship communications.
  • Partner closely with the Foundations team to leverage existing program-specific content for the principal and major donor audiences, especially to demonstrate the impact of our programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Development and the Communications and Culture Divisions as needed. Assist the Director in liaising across Development teams, and with other key teams across the organization.
  • When the Writer is lead on a project involving graphic design, partner with the Associate Design Director and collaborate on the design process.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
