THE OPPORTUNITY
The Monarchs Collective is pleased to partner with
the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), the
leading global funder of breast cancer research, seeks a
sophisticated and strategic Chief Development
Officer (CDO). This is a unique and career-defining
opportunity for a highly motivated, seasoned, and results-oriented
leader to help fulfill BCRF’s mission: to prevent and cure breast
cancer by advancing the world’s most promising research. By
translating the impact of the science we support into persuasive
campaigns and collateral and executing message-rich experiences,
BCRF’s CDO fosters enduring donor connections.
OVERVIEW OF BCRF
BCRF is the largest private funder of breast cancer research
worldwide. Since its inception in 1993 by Evelyn Lauder, BCRF has
invested more than $800 million in groundbreaking research,
significantly contributing to a 40% decline in breast cancer deaths
over the past three decades. Research is the reason there are more
than 3,800,000 survivorsin the U.S. today, the
largest cohort in history.
Unique in its singular focus on research, BCRF convenes and
connects the best minds in science—giving them the opportunity to
pursue their most innovative ideas. This combination of investment
and cross-disciplinary collaboration accelerates the entire field
and builds momentum for new discoveries. BCRF-funded investigators
around the globe have been behind every major breakthrough in
breast cancer research–including advances in prevention, diagnosis,
treatment, survivorship and metastasis.
THE CDO ROLE
Reporting to the President & CEO, the CDO serves as a member of
BCRF’s Senior Leadership Team and works in collaboration with the
CEO, key Board members and staff to devise and execute an
integrated fundraising strategy designed to grow philanthropic
revenue (current target $30M to $40M) to support a robust research
portfolio and to continuously broaden and diversify the
Foundation’s funding base. The CDO also works closely with the
Nominating and Development Committees of the Board of Directors on
various fundraising and board development initiatives.
The CDO is an inspirational leader of a 22-person Development and
Events (D&E) team, which encompasses major gifts, individual
and planned giving, cultivation and fundraising events, board
relations, and database & donor services. The D&E team
works in close partnership across the Foundation to secure the
critical funds to support BCRF’s world-renowned breast cancer
researchers, currently numbering 275 in 15 countries.
In success, the CDO expands and diversifies BCRF’s base of support,
