ABOUT ROSE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

In January 2020, the Foundation committed itself to a bold and ambitious strategic plan centered around three goals: 1) Advancing equity and justice, 2) Fostering an inclusive and engaged Greater Denver community, and 3) Increasing resources dedicated to strengthening the region. The current COVID-19 crisis has pushed us to work in nimble and responsive ways, all aligned with our new strategy, in support of our community at a time of unprecedented change and need.

Since its founding in 1995, Rose Community Foundation has granted more than $322 million to nearly 2,000 nonprofit organizations and initiatives, through our endowed and donor-directed grantmaking in Greater Denver’s Jewish and broader communities. The Philanthropic Services team at Rose Community Foundation stewards charitable resources on behalf of nonprofit and donor-advised fundholders and engages a diverse range of stakeholder partners. The Philanthropic Initiatives Associate will work as part of a team coordinating and supporting four Foundation initiatives: Live On | LIFE & LEGACY®, the Nonprofit Endowment Cohort, Roots & Branches Foundation and Rose Youth Foundation.

Naturally collaborative, detail-oriented and highly organized, they will find personal and professional alignment with our mission to advance inclusive, engaged and equitable Greater Denver communities through values-driven philanthropy. They will be highly motivated and excited to advance philanthropy in Greater Denver. A relationship-builder with a strong customer-service orientation, they will excel at working with people from a range of backgrounds and identities, including teens, nonprofit professionals and donors.

A team-player, the Philanthropic Initiatives Associate will be open-minded, highly professional and have a strong sense of discretion. They will also have strong interpersonal and project management skills, a growth mindset and a love of learning. They must be accountable and responsive, as well as effective at working independently and managing their own time. Self-awareness, humility and humor, empathy, and personal and professional integrity are key attributes of all members of our team, as are flexibility and the ability to thrive in an evolving organization. The Philanthropic Initiatives Associate will contribute to a positive work environment, consistently demonstrating the Foundation’s culture and values of equity, justice, diversity and inclusion, empathy, generosity, community, and transformation through collaboration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Philanthropic Initiatives Associate will be a member of the Philanthropic Services team, working closely with the Director of Collaborative Philanthropy and the Director of Nonprofit Funds and Endowments to support four key philanthropic initiatives at Rose Community Foundation:

Live On | LIFE & LEGACY

Live On | LIFE & LEGACY, a partnership between Rose Community Foundation and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, provides trainings, incentives and support to encourage endowment building and legacy giving throughout the Greater Denver/Boulder Jewish community. This initiative empowers Jewish organizations to engage in planned giving conversations, elevates community awareness of the power of legacy giving and endowment building, and integrates legacy giving and stewardship into the philanthropic culture of the Jewish community. Twenty-six organizations from across the Greater Denver/Boulder Jewish community currently participative in Live On | LIFE & LEGACY.

Nonprofit Endowment Cohort (NEC)

The Nonprofit Endowment Cohort (NEC) is a nine-month program providing training, individual coaching and a $10,000 match to help organizations launch an endowment fund and build the internal capacity to grow that fund over time. The curriculum supplies tools to help nonprofits integrate legacy giving and endowment building into their development work and organizational culture. Past cohorts have included organizations in the arts, education, health, social services and other focus areas.

Rose Youth Foundation (RYF)

Each year, Rose Youth Foundation brings together a diverse group of Jewish youth and empowers them with the tools and resources to make a difference in the community through the practice of philanthropy informed by Jewish values. The members work together for eight months to explore issues facing the community; learn about Jewish values and traditions of giving; set grant priorities; and work together to award $60,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations. Examples of where past cohorts have focused their grantmaking include: addressing the early childhood education achievement gap, supporting teen mental health and wellness, and welcoming and supporting immigrant and refugee newcomers.

Roots & Branches Foundation (R & B)

Roots & Branches Foundation brings together Jewish adults ages 25-40 to understand Jewish traditions and values, explore community needs, and collectively decide how to give $50,000 to help address an issue that resonates with them as young Jewish philanthropists. The program looks to nurture a community of current and future leaders who connect their Jewish values and identities to the difference they hope to make in the world while building an ongoing commitment to engaging in the Jewish community, philanthropy and with Rose Community Foundation. Examples of where past cohorts have focused their grantmaking include: reducing recidivism rates, support for immigrants and refugees, and strengthening communities through increased access to healthy food and nutrition education.
