Director, National Foundation and Government Development

Full-Time, Regular

Reports to: Vice President, Foundation and Government Development

 

WETA is looking for a driven Director for our Foundation and Government Development (FGD) team. In this role, you will work closely with the Vice President and other WETA leadership to develop and execute innovative strategies to secure funding to support PBS NewsHour, Ken Burns, Henry Louis “Skip” Gates Jr., Washington Week, arts productions, and documentaries. We will count on you to be a stellar multitasker and provide clear, practical, and concise advice on funding operations and goals to WETA leadership.

In an average week, you can expect to:

  • Maximize productivity and profitability by leading the prospecting function for National Productions and the PBS Newshour for the FGD team.
  • Work closely with the WETA FGD Grants Management team to ensure that all reporting to donors is completed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor and research funding trends, issues and opportunities.
  • Coordinate with the Director, Local Foundation and Government Development in budget development process, tracking revenue and expenses, and that the department is on target towards annual goal and within budgeted expenses.

What success looks like:

  • After 60 days, you will be familiar with key partners and stakeholders throughout the company; and understand the current relationships we have with funders.
  • After 120 days, you’ll have been actively prospecting and identifying new funding opportunities for your portfolio.

You must have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of national foundation and federal government fundraising.
  • Proven track record of securing six and seven figure gifts.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to manage the development and growth of a high-performing team
  • Understanding and application of computer technology, fundraising programs, social media, email, and the Internet.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and juggle responsibilities simultaneously.

You should have:

  • Minimum 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in national foundation and federal government fundraising and stewardship; college degree in liberal arts, communications, public relations, marketing, or related field (Master’s degree preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of public media preferred.
