Job Purpose

The Development Officer, Individual Giving (Major Gifts Officer) is responsible for the oversight, coordination and strategy development for the solicitation of individual major gift donors and prospects with capacity of $10,000+ in support of Three Square Food Bank. This position also develops strategies and manages all elements of planned giving. This position manages donor relationships, which will involve identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals. The focus should be on sustaining existing support, building deeper relationships with new donors and developing personalized strategies for individual major donors. This position will work closely with the Director of Development and growing cross-functional Strategic Gifts Team to build and support a major gifts pipeline.

 

Essential Job Functions

Donor Engagement & Portfolio Management 70%

  • Maintain a portfolio of major individual donors and prospects by proactively creating and implementing strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors with the capacity to make gifts of $10,000+ to Three Square Food Bank
  • Write customized proposals, presentations, and stewardship reports for major individual donors
  • Conduct at least 100 meaningful engagements with donors and prospects annually through one-on-one meetings, site visits/tours, virtual calls, etc.
  • Craft personalized, consistent donor experiences for individual major donors and major donor prospects
  • Assume responsibility for the cultivation, stewardship, tracking, reporting, and analysis of activity related to assigned planned giving prospects
  • Work in close partnership with the Development Team to identify and develop strategies to ensure regular stewardship and recognition of donors. This includes thank you campaigns, impact reports, stewardship events, and new ideas for how to keep donors engaged and informed

 

Planning and Strategy 10%

  • Strategize on portfolio assignments and fundraising goals to maximize gifts to Three Square
  • Cultivate relationships (new or existing) with internal and external leaders, who can extend the Food Bank’s reach by connecting and assisting with the cultivation and solicitation of existing donors and new prospects
  • Identify, propose and contribute to the development of donor solicitation and marketing materials
  • Assist and participate in the preparation of department budget
  • Foster camaraderie and collaboration throughout the department and organization; hold to clear standards of Three Square’s culture and values
  • Serve as a planned giving content expert
  • Manage confidential information

Data Management 10%

  • Working with the Donor Relations Team, create monthly reports that accurately reflect donor engagement activities
  • Maintain accurate, complete and timely donor records for current and prospective individual major gift and planned giving donors
  • Ensure accurate tracking systems for all types of donor activity

 

Other

  • Serve as an active member of the Development Team and cross-functional Strategic Gifts Team, contributing to goal setting and the refinement of processes and procedures
  • Play and active role in executing and supporting Three Square’s fundraising and strategic plans
  • Provide on and offsite support for Three Square events and other activities as needed
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or minimum of five (5) years of fundraising experience in a complex fundraising environment
  • Demonstrated experience soliciting major gifts and engaging with donors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Donor Perfect (or relevant CRM) database experience
  • Commitment to Three Square’s mission and the ability to effectively communicate it

 

Work Environment

  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends and travel to multiple locations
  • Ability to work remotely
