Title:           Senior Director of Logistics, Warehouse Operations, and Transportation

Department: Supply Chain

Reports To:    Vice President, Operations

Location:       Bronx Warehouse (355 Food Center Drive) Non-Remote

        

The Sr. Director of Logistics, Warehouse Operations, and Transportation is responsible for overseeing and directing the management of logistics, food and warehouse distribution operations, and transportation in the general areas of warehouse and facilities, warehouse staff & drivers, delivery schedules, vehicle maintenance, inventory oversight, shipping and receiving logistics; compliance with AIB, Feeding America, USDA, OSHA and other relevant standards; overseeing agency and community partnerships, USDA programs including TEFAP and CSFP, and food sourcing. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Logistics:

  • Oversee the management of all member agencies and partner distribution and supply chain operations for logistics, warehousing, and transportation
  • Direct the organization's daily warehouse and fleet operations, ensuring efficient, safe, and productive staffing assignments and other resources allocation. Use production planning methods to develop effective schedules and plans.
  • Track and analyze key delivery metrics and continuously strive to meet or exceed KPI's. Actively create action plans based on observed results. Drive high performance for key performance metrics: Inventory accuracy, warehouse productivity and optimal space utilization, efficient and safe use of our fleet.
  • Support member agencies and partners by identifying and implementing value creation opportunities
  • Manage productivity, quality, and safety standards in accordance with organization needs and partner requirements
  • Implement and maintain operational processes and procedures; prepare reports on performance and potential improvements for operations
  • Provide direction, development and leadership for managers and supervisors
  • Analysis of and ongoing personnel/staffing requirements based on peak activity and to minimize overtime
  • Provide accurate and timely submission of key quality, financial and safety reports
  • Hire, train, develop and appraise staff effectively; take corrective action as necessary in a timely manner and in accordance with company policies
  • Plan and coordinate operations and supply chain activities with departmental managers and supervisors to ensure objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Be able to control per delivery cost efficiency through target setting and maintaining/achieving performance standards, while building on operational/process improvements.
  • Participate in budget planning, management of specific budget items, and reporting of department activities, as well as validates all invoices
  • Serve as the primary liaison with auditors (Federal/City/State, etc.)
  • Keep informed about all Feeding America, as well as State and Federal government contracts, disaster programs, etc. Ensure Food Bank inclusion in plans and fulfillment of reporting requirements

Warehousing Operations:

  • Update and develop the Quality Assurance Manual and ensure all practices (food handling, salvage processing, refrigeration, freezer, etc.) are conducted in accordance with AIB, State, Federal and Feeding America (national) health guidelines and ensure proper documentation is maintained for all food safety programs

  • Establish and meet site objectives in the areas of financial performance, safety, quality and customer service, while maintaining compliance with all applicable internal and external policies
  • Provide continual evaluation & document revisions as needed of processes and procedures to meet and/or exceed requirements; champion continuous improvement activity within the facility.
  • Direct efficient management of all warehouse facility and distribution operations as per above
  • Develop and update existing written policies and procedures to ensure effective, efficient, and safe operations
  • Perform & document a monthly safety inspection outlining deficiencies of all worksites. Propose and document timelines for all required repairs and improvements for deficiencies discovered during inspections.
  • Analyze existing processes and work-flows, identify problems or bottlenecks, account for variances, drive root-cause analysis and implement improved methods and procedures.

Transportation:

  • Direct the management of the company’s fleet of vehicles, ensuring compliance with all DOT rules and regulations
  • Supervise management of scheduling and dispatch of all trucks to ensure on-time delivery and pick up of all food distribution needs for member agencies, partners, and food sourcing needs
  • Oversee the development and implementation of a maintenance and repair program for all vehicles and other field equipment.
  • Hire, train, supervise, motivate, and develop drivers ensuring the highest levels of safety compliance and customer service; manage schedules and workflow.

 

Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. Degree – Required
  • 8-10 years of experience in warehouse, distribution and facilities management, including at least five years as a supervisor, preferably in a food industry environment
  • High level of analytical, data interpretation, and problem-solving skills
  • The ideal candidate is a quick, adaptable, well-organized and reliable team player who handles pressure well, has excellent analytical, communication, presentation skills and offers a collegial and professional manner and outlook
  • A strong leader able to take ownership of their department and area of expertise.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills; excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail and follow through.
  • Demonstrated independent judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Rock solid integrity and ability to manage difficult situations with professionalism and tact.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization and across multi-cultural and generational backgrounds
  • Experience with or knowledge of social service/hunger issues a plus.
  • Strong management, supervisory, communications and interpersonal skills
  • Possesses a demonstrated skill at conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of latest warehousing, distribution, and inventory technology and procedures a plus
  • Create a positive team dynamic that encourages all employees in the warehouse to: provide feedback and drive change within the facility, adapt to the ever-changing business and stay focused on excellent customer service
  • Computer proficiency, including familiarity with MS Office.
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement methodology (Kaizen, 6Sigma, LEAN, VSM) is a plus
  • Experience with or knowledge of social service/hunger issues a plus
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement
