Responsibilities

This position is responsible for planning and overseeing implementation of the Foundation’s comprehensive donor relations program, including recognition and stewardship activities. Reporting to the vice president for the Office of Advancement Relations (OAR), the director provides leadership, administrative oversight and strategic direction to the Donor Relations team. The individual is expected to uphold and exemplify the operating practices and mission of the Florida State University Foundation.

Leadership

Manage and coordinate personnel and daily departmental operations to achieve stated goals; Evaluate direct report personnel and train new staff members, as needed; and Assist OAR with its strategic, long-term planning efforts.

Administrative Oversight

Develop and monitor annual departmental budget and goals that support the Foundation’s mission; Direct the donor relations team in increasingly effective use of the constituent relationship management  database system to track, manage and report stewardship activities; Oversee annual comprehensive stewardship/donor relations program in collaboration with appropriate deans, University leadership and development officers; and Research and resolve internal and external problems and questions as they relate to stewardship functions.  Serve as staff liaison for the Foundation Board’s Donor Stewardship committee, guiding committee activities and leading discussion and presentations at committee meetings.

Oversee recognition society programs and events

Including Vires, Artes, Mores, the University-wide donor recognition society; Working with OAR and campus colleagues, develop and execute the bi-annual VAM stewardship event; Working with the director of Special Events, plan, implement and attend appropriate donor recognition and cultivation events that meet specific goals; manage the Presidents club, which honors top Foundation donors and working with donor relations colleagues, develop and execute the bi-annual Presidents Club College and stewardship event.  Oversee the Foundation’s new consecutive giving program, Forever FSU, which began in FY21.

Manage departmental stewardship programs

Oversee the annual endowment report project; Serve as the primary stewardship contact for specific colleges/units and develop targeted stewardship programs tailored to their donors; Track gift agreements that have specific stewardship requirements and work in collaboration with development officers to ensure these stewardship needs are met; Working with the senior director of communications, plan and implement appropriate donor recognition and cultivation communication vehicles; and perform other duties as assigned.  Oversee the post-acceptance stewardship portion of FS4U, ensuring thank you letters are sent from student scholarship recipients to the donors who funded the scholarships.  Working with OAR, Foundation and campus colleagues, execute the annual Thank a Nole Day which serves as a stewardship event for donors while raising philanthropic awareness among students.  

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to ten years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office products suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word), or equivalent software.

A self-starter, comfortable working independently and with teams.

Excellent communication skills to include effective and persuasive writing, public speaking and interpersonal skills.

Must be a creative thinker and a recognition of the impact of meaningful stewardship.

Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously and accurately in a detail-oriented environment.

Ability to establish positive, productive working relationships with donors, University and Foundation personnel.

Familiarity with developing and formalizing processes and procedures.

Strong customer service ethic.

Customer Service or Donor Relations/Stewardship experience preferred.

Experience with Black Baud’s CRM Platform or other fundraising information management systems/databases preferred.

Non-profit experience preferred.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
