Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development, the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) is a member of the Development Division's leadership team, and is responsible for managing and increasing the levels of support and participation of corporate and foundation donors. The ideal candidate will understand the needs, motivations, and priorities of corporate and foundation funders and help the Office of Development develop a strategic plan aligned with USF's mission-driven priorities with funding opportunities. S/he will bring a fresh perspective and creative approach to partnering USF with leading foundations both regionally and nationally. The Senior Director will also be knowledgeable about the latest strategies and trends influencing foundation philanthropy and will be able to skillfully connect each individual foundation prospect's areas of focus with what USF faculty and students are doing in that space. S/he will assess the University's current corporate, private, community, and family foundation relationships, building on what currently exists and creating new avenues to maximize institutional giving. This position will serve as the leader in Corporate and Foundation Relations and will be expected to educate and advise faculty, staff, and university leadership on ways to grow institutional philanthropy to the University.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development, the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations manages and increases the levels of support and participation of foundation donors at the University of San Francisco.

Full Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Establish annual performance and financial goals for Corporate and Foundation Relations in conjunction with the Associate Vice President for Development; develop and implement plans to achieve those goals and expand the University's network of foundation donors on a local, state and national level.
  • Supervise the Director of Corporate Relations and Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations Operations,.
  • Actively solicitation and management of a portfolio of prospects (note: number TBD), including developing and implementing internal strategy, external meetings, and campus site visits. Identify prospects aligned with the priorities of the University, grow the pipeline of new foundation donors and implement moves management strategies to increase levels of giving among current foundation donors.
  • Proactively identify potential grant opportunities, based on identified USF priorities, and communicate these to appropriate administrators, faculty, and program directors.
  • Strategize with Development officers, Deans, faculty, and leaders of USF's institutes and centers to identify prospects and create cultivation and solicitation plans to secure funds for institutional priorities. Engage University leadership and faculty in the solicitation and cultivation of prospects, as appropriate.
  • Support leadership and faculty in the writing and editing of grant proposals, solicitation letters, letters of intent, supporting materials and other correspondence, as appropriate.
  • Work with the Associate Director of Operations, Corporate and Foundation Relations to ensure timely grant reports and associated deliverables for funders.
  • Work with the Office of Contracts and Grants to create and present grantsmanship workshops for faculty, and to ensure timely, accurate development of budgets for grants and associated reporting, as applicable.
  • Participate in prospect clearance procedures in conjunction with the Associate Vice President for Development.
  • Work with Associate Director of Operations, Corporate and Foundation Relations to develop briefing documents and presentation materials for use by leadership, faculty, and Development colleagues.
  • Coordinate with the Donor Engagement team to plan stewardship events and engage private foundations through cultivation events.
  • Coordinate with Stewardship team to ensure that acknowledgement letters and other institutional donor correspondence is completed on time, as applicable.
  • Act as a representative of the University and its interests in external forums and donor meetings.
  • Build and maintain amicable relationships with University departments, particularly the Office of Contracts and Grants, Financial Aid, and Business and Finance.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • At least seven years experience successfully soliciting and stewarding 5 and 6-figure foundation grants.
  • Highly developed written, verbal, research, and editorial skills, preferably demonstrated in an academic setting; ability to synthesize information and compose clear and effective prose. Experience juggling multiple priorities with stakeholders from across the campus. Ability to deliver when faced with competing deadlines; strong organizational and leadership skills and an attention to detail.
  • Committed customer-service focus; excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a proven ability to work patiently, persuasively, and effectively with a wide variety of people, including students, faculty, staff, donors, trustees, volunteers, and alumni.
  • Superior problem-solving skills; the ability to listen and hear multiple viewpoints and make tough decisions; and a sense of when to ask for assistance.
  • Sense of humor; desire and ability to work as part of a team; and willingness to collaborate with stakeholders across campus is key.
  • Strong work ethic coupled with a hands-on approach.
  • Experience managing a grant from initial contact to the reporting phase.
  • Fundraising in a college setting preferred.
