Council for a Strong America (CSA) has a great opportunity for a Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations to join our fast-paced team.  Working as a senior member of the Strategic Planning and Development Team, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission of engaging law enforcement, military, business, faith, and sports leaders who promote evidence-based policies and programs that enable kids to be healthy, well-educated and prepared for productive lives.  In this role, the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations is a results-oriented, motivating team leader focused on securing new funding from dedicated, impactful corporations and foundations while also sustaining and expanding support from our current funders in these sectors to achieve CSA’s revenue and mission goals. The successful candidate will achieve this by working with a team of development, policy, communications, and organizing professionals to design and implement new funding and high-touch stewardship strategies.

 THE POSITION 

Reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Planning and Development (VPSPD), the Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations (DCFR) will work collaboratively with leadership to build new and leverage existing relationships to maximize corporate and foundation giving. In addition, the DFCR will manage a portfolio of existing foundation grants and corporate contributions, working in close partnership with program directors and staff in that effort.

Salary: $100K - 125K

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of the CSA fundraising leadership team, providing strategy and vision to build a robust and successful corporate relations program that will strategically align with CSA’s priorities and initiatives.

  • Work with the VPSPD and Development team to provide strategy and vision to strengthen and grow our robust and successful foundation relations program that will strategically align with CSA’s priorities and initiatives.

  • Proactively and strategically initiate and execute the identification, cultivation, and solicitation activities for leading foundations and corporations that will result in significant resources (six-, seven-, and eight-figure commitments) to CSA’s highest priorities.

  • Facilitate new and leverage existing strategic relationships between senior CSA leaders (including CSA board members) and corporate and foundation giving prospects to increase support for and visibility of CSA’s mission.  

  • Oversee the development of competitive and compelling requests for foundation and corporate funding ensuring optimal integration/collaboration of key internal CSA stakeholders in the proposal development process.

  • Work closely with other CSA teams, including Federal Policy, State Policy, Research, Communications, and Finance, to collaborate effectively with external funders and ensure proposals and agreements are fulfilled.

  • Partner with the VPSPD and Development and development team to identify and implement the best cultivation, stewardship, and grant management practices across the institution, including regular communications with funders and prospects on CSA events and achievements.

  • Manage a portfolio of foundations, select family foundations, corporate funders, and potential others while assisting development staff in developing, expanding, and fully realizing the philanthropic potential of their portfolios.

  • Assist in planning, monitoring, and managing the budget for the development team. 

  • In collaboration with the Senior Manager of Development and Strategic Planning, serve as a liaison to the Finance Department to ensure proper transfer and reporting on budget and oversight of funds.

  • Serve as a resource to staff who wish to engage foundations and corporations.

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in foundation and corporate philanthropy, including portfolio management, relationship development, and stewardship, and grant and report writing.

  • Demonstrated successful track record of closing 6 to 8-figure grant contracts and growing new and existing relationships.

  • Proven ability and desire to lead, manage and grow a corporate and foundation fundraising program.

  • Ability to collaborate closely with colleagues in development and across departments.

  • Knowledge of current trends in foundation and corporate funding, as well as institutional funders committed to supporting organizations with a similar mission to CSA.

  • Ability to persuasively articulate the organization’s mission, program objectives, and resource needs to potential donors.

  • Ability and desire to work well in an ambiguous environment with a complicated array of internal stakeholders ensuring their appropriate engagement in the grants process and superior level of customer service and follow-through.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including writing, editing, and presenting.

  • A high degree of emotional intelligence.

  • Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills as well as sound judgment and problem-solving skills.

  • A strong connection to and passion for CSA’s mission.  Experience with early childhood care and education, child health, and/or k-16 issues a plus.

  • Ability to travel roughly 40%, or as required, once we are able to travel.  Up until then, one must be able to work effectively in a remote environment.

  • Experience with Salesforce or other complex databases is a plus.

  • BA/BS required. Master’s degree preferred.
