Imagine a world where all children, youth, and communities can grow and thrive – a world that centers the well-being of children, their families, and their communities. Amara is committed to that vision.

Amara has gained a unique reputation in the region as an innovator, seeking holistic approaches on behalf of children and families experiencing the child welfare system, foster care, and adoption. More recently, Amara has deepened its commitments to the core aspects that strengthen the wellbeing of children: community, equity, family, and connection. Through growing programs to support kinship care, family reunification, and nurturing continued connection to birth families and community, Amara’s innovative programs influence and shape the field through informed practice and policy change. Despite the pandemic upending life as we know it, Amara has continued to foster caring and connection for children and families and adapted its programming to meet this challenging time.

Amara looks to a bright future and now seeks nominations and applications for a new CEO to lead the deeply committed staff, families, volunteers, and communities in supporting children and families experiencing foster care and beyond. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead this unique organization committed to transforming itself and in turn the systems, policies, and practices of the child welfare field to strive toward a just and equitable world where all children, youth, and communities can grow and thrive. The new CEO will work closely with the board and staff to build on recent mission, vision, and strategic planning work, and integrate and capitalize on community-led initiatives in Pierce County, which expand the organization’s partnerships and potential impact beyond Amara’s ongoing work in the Seattle area. S/he/they will build strong and authentic relationships with Amara’s community of supporters and be thoughtful in nurturing mission-aligned and sustainable funding streams, operations, and program development. The new leader will be a passionate advocate for the well-being of children and families through community-centered supports and understand how to operationalize a big vision and ambitious goals that center on and align with building an anti-racist and LGBTQ+ affirming organization.
