As a Planned Giving Officer (PGO), you would be a valued member of the development team who works in tandem with Directors of Development to secure blended gifts/outright and planned gifts within all areas of the zoo.  You will be responsible for estate planning, including wills, trusts, income, estate, and gift tax laws.  In addition to, identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a donors' portfolio and will serve as a resource to the zoo.

Essential Duties

  • Manage a portfolio of at least 50 planned gift prospects
  • Assist prospects and their advisors in clarifying philanthropic and personal objectives and retain and record that information.
  • Personally contact, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects to develop individualized giving plans that maximize tax savings, achieve philanthropic goals and objectives, and provide financial support to San Antonio Zoo.
  • Personally make 75 face to face visits annually with suspects/prospects/donors for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Create and manage planned giving society including supplemental materials for development staff use for San Antonio Zoo
  • Become proficient in mission, vision, and programs within San Antonio Zoo and be able to relay that compelling case for support to donors
  • Research, prepare and present philanthropic giving proposals to donors/prospects.
  • Complete designated estate plans, endowments, gift agreements, call reports, and legacy paperwork on a timely basis.
  • Keep accurate and up to date information related to all activities with donors and prospects in the designated systems.
  • Remain current on changes in income, estate, and gift tax-related rules, regulations, and trends.
  • Engage in professional organizations related to the field of gift planning and advancement.
  • Develop relationships with professional advisors to enhance future gift commitments
  • Participate in the development of marketing strategies, donor recognition plans, stewardship plans, and other donor society and appreciation events
  • Upholds all company policies as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures, Team Member Handbook, and Code of Business Conduct.
  • Consistently exhibit an attitude of service inside and outside of the zoo, showing hospitality to all.
  • Be fully committed to the mission of San Antonio Zoo to create awareness that inspires action to care for the wild world we steward and animals we protect.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Performs other work-related duties as required and assigned.

Skills/Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of five years of experience in planned giving fundraising or estate, tax, or financial related business experience is required.
  • Bachelors degree, required
  • Progressive experience and knowledge of best practices in development, sales, or businesses related to cultivating high net worth individuals.
  • Excellent attention to detail and follow-through, as demonstrated through effective project management experience.
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills.
  • Outstanding ability to work effectively in teams of diverse people and organizations.
  • Experience working with a database, as well as with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational, communications, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Responsibility for completion of all online training curriculum by assigned deadline.
  • Successful candidates must complete a pre-employment National Sex Offender Search, Criminal Background Check, and Drug Screen.
  • Must be able to work in varying climates and weather conditions (rain, snow, hot, or cold).
  • We enjoy year-round operation for all staff, must be available day, nights, weekends, and occasional special after-hour assignments.
