Job Description

The Bryan Museum seeks an energetic, organized, and self-motivated Education & Project Coordinator. This full-time position will lead in the creation, coordination, and facilitation of educational programs and projects that advances The Bryan Museum’s priorities of youth history and literacy learning. Projects include, but are not limited to, youth workshops in conjunction with special exhibitions, online programs, youth literacy initiatives, community/family events & programs, summer camp, lecture and tour coordination. The ideal candidate will have experience managing, designing, and facilitating projects and events in a non-profit or museum setting producing high-quality, educational, and hands-on education programs. This position collaborates with marketing, development, and event staff; and reports directly to the Executive Director.

 

The Bryan Museum opened in June 2015 in what was formerly the Galveston Orphans Home, built in 1895, survived the Storm of 1900, and remained an orphanage until the 1980s. Today, the Museum is home to one of the world’s largest collection of artifacts, documents, maps, and works of art relating to the history of Texas and the American West. The Bryan Museum is a non-profit 501c(3).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, develop, execute Education and Museum related projects
  • Coordinate and collaborate with community partners and area schools to plan for programs and curriculum opportunities for area students and liberal arts educators
  • Work with Museum staff, volunteers, and contract consultants to ensure priorities, timetables and related project elements are effectively implemented, supporting cross-departmental collaboration and communication
  • Communicate with executives to keep the projects aligned with the Museum and Development goals and strategic plans
  • Implement and manage systems and resources used in the development and improvement of the Education Department
  • Assist in the definition of projects’ scope and goals
  • Develop a calendar of events and set deadlines, and ensure they are met
  • Coordinate workshops, online programming, and lectures for youth and adults that complement rotating exhibitions
  • Participate in the planning and coordination of small and large special events
  • Contribute education focused material for marketing and social media
  • Responsible for coordinating prescheduled tours
  • Maintain proficiency in knowledge of Museum’s collection and history of Texas and the American West
  • Execute other Education and Museum-wide responsibilities and duties as assigned 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Background in education, history, art history, or literacy related fields 
  • Two years of experience in project management and/or program development within non-profits, museums, or education departments
  • Flexible schedule including weekends and/or occasional nights is required
  • An advanced certification in project management is desirable
  • Background check required, as this position also interacts with children

  • Highly organized and has demonstrated ability to coordinate systems with special attention to communication, budget, deadlines, and priority details
  • Proven leadership skills with ability to work collaboratively with a team comprised of individuals from across the organization
  • Self-motivated and has ability to efficiently prioritize when working on multiple projects at-once, to ensure key tasks are met as scheduled
  • Is a critical thinker and creative problem-solver
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and ownership of projects
  • Maintains a strong passion and commitment to welcoming, encouraging, educating, and engaging with youth of all ages and families of all types

 

Job Type: Full-time

 

Pay: $18 per hour with opportunity to advance
