Associate, Development and Board Relations for Education Non-Profit

- Increase public understanding of the value of data in supporting the student journey through the P–20W pipeline (early education, K–12, postsecondary and workforce).
- Build the capacity of policy and education leaders to develop trust with communities to ensure data is used.
- Ensure that state leaders use the policy levers available to them across P–20W to make data work for students and communities.

Note: DQC’s staff is headquartered in Washington, DC, and is currently working remotely. We will give preference to applicants who reside in the DC area, but are open to qualified candidates located outside of DC.
DQC associates are ambitious, energized by their colleagues, and passionate about DQC’s mission. The person in this role must be a strong project manager with excellent attention to detail. This position will support DQC’s President and leadership in the implementation of its fundraising and Board of Directors development strategies, as well as other key organizational initiatives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Support fundraising by researching existing and potential funders and thoughtfully connecting their priorities to DQC’s strategic plan. Use this research to help DQC leadership understand funder interests, draft concept papers, and prepare for conversations with funders.
- Support the President and other DQC leadership as they cultivate external relations, including preparing briefing books, writing proposals, and other duties as needed.
- Act as a trusted representative of DQC with external stakeholders including Board members, funders, and partners.
- Manage and implement Board of Directors outreach and engagement strategies and preparation for Board meetings.
- Manage key aspects of the grant management process, including tracking milestones and deliverables.
- Support efforts to communicate about DQC’s work to funders and Board Members.
- Manage efforts to engage Board Members in highlighting DQC’s work and facilitate opportunities for DQC staff to partner with Board Members through thought leadership.
- Support strategic initiatives, including the implementation of DQC’s strategic plan.
- Keep DQC staff informed about key milestones in fundraising, Board development, and other organization-wide initiatives.
- Plan, facilitate, and prepare other team members for effective and results-oriented meetings.
- Seek strategic opportunities for collaboration and partnership with both internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education and experience:
- DQC values both education and work experiences that demonstrate the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.
- Ideal candidates have a minimum of six years of experience, which can include a combination of postsecondary education, internships and professional, full-time work experience. (For example, six years of experience could include the completion of an associate’s degree, two six-month internships and three years of full-time work experience.)

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a project and keep multiple contributors on task to meet key milestones
- Excellent organization and time-management skills
- A superb ability to synthesize complex information into plain language
- Excellent writing skills, with experience in proposal writing a bonus
- Reputation for being entrepreneurial, partnership‐oriented, energetic, positive, and focused
- Capacity to work under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to travel occasionally for the organization
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
