Come join a team of dedicated staff at an exceptional time in Smithsonian history. With our Secretary, Lonnie G. Bunch III, who was previously the founding director of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, we are positioned to realize our goal of being a truly 21st century museum complex. The Smithsonian is dedicated to its founding mission, “the increase and diffusion of knowledge” and as such we use our resources to encourage curiosity, ignite wonder and spark the joy of learning. Following the success of the Smithsonian's first comprehensive capital campaign, the largest ever undertaken by a cultural organization, the Smithsonian has built a model fundraising organization. This position offers exciting opportunities for the successful candidate to make a significant impact on the future of the Smithsonian. There is no better time to join this amazing Institution.

The Smithsonian Institution's Office of Advancement seeks an experienced and creative candidate to fill the role of Advancement Associate in the Constituent Engagement department. The team collaborates with colleagues across the Smithsonian, supporting institutional and volunteer leadership on advancement messaging and communications, programming and stewardship, and online engagement and fundraising. This position provides administrative support to the Associate Director of Volunteer Engagement and is a key member of the Volunteer Engagement, Events, and Programming team. The incumbent acts as liaison for the Smithsonian National Board (SNB) and responds to SNB member questions and requests, manages the SNB web portal, and maintains accurate contact and biographic information for SNB members and alumni. This role will also support board member communications, solicitation, and acknowledgement writing. In collaboration with the Stewardship and Events team, the Associate assists in planning and executing the SNB's meetings, virtual engagement events, and orientations, assuming full responsibility for specific tasks associated with meeting logistics, production, and execution. The Associate also oversees gift registration for SNB gifts and tracking the SNB budget.

In addition to supporting the SNB, the Associate will provide administrative and content development support to the Director of Online Engagement and Fundraising. The incumbent will assist with researching Smithsonian content, drafting features for cultivation emails, monitoring team inboxes, and providing support to manage subscription renewals, submit invoices for payment, and track payment requests.

Successful candidates will demonstrate superior communications skills, strong organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to productively support multiple teams. Considerable initiative and seasoned judgement are required. Candidates must be well versed in Microsoft Office Suite and be a fast learner for new software and databases. Additional skills and experience in graphic design, digital advertising, social media, and web development are ideal, but not required. A passion for learning and exploration, and the desire to join a fast-paced operation should be demonstrated in your application.

The Office of Advancement oversees and guides the fundraising efforts of the entire Smithsonian and is home to the central development organization for the Institution. In addition to raising significant support for a variety of pan-institutional initiatives, the Office of Advancement provides support to advancement offices across the Institution.
