FLSA Status: Exempt Immediate Supervisor: Director of Major and Planned Giving Employees Supervised: 0 Position Grade and Starting Annual Salary: I09 - $59-69K  Location: Flexible work locations include Auburn, Hampden, or Yarmouth, Maine.      Good Shepherd Food Bank, Maine's largest hunger-relief organization is seeking a Major Gift Officer to join our successful fundraising team as we continue our work on an unprecedented $250 million campaign.  Through its Campaign to End Hunger in Maine, GSFB endeavors to raise $100 million in cash and pledges and $150 million in donated food before the end of 2025.  To date, more than 43,000 donors have contributed $115 million in food, cash, and pledges. While the collective support of many will continue to buoy our work, this campaign’s long-term success requires leadership donors whose commitment to our mission and to Maine will inspire others.  The Major Gift Officer will play an important role in engaging existing and new donors in the vision for Maine that will be achieved by the Campaign to End Hunger in Maine.   Job Summary: The Major Gift Officer works to implement Good Shepherd Food Bank’s major gift program as a means of increasing overall funding for the Food Bank in a sustainable manner. The primary objective of the position is to develop and manage a portfolio of $5,000+ individual and corporate major gift prospects and coordinate donor identification, research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts of the Food Bank’s major gift program.   Essential Functions & Responsibilities  
  • Manage a portfolio of 125-150 major gift prospects by developing, documenting and implementing appropriate identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for major gift prospects and donors 
  • Execute documented prospect strategies, continually tracking “touches” and collaborating with other departments
  • Develop major gift request strategies that focus on the needs of the organization, tailored to the specific interests and capacity of individual prospects 
  • Coordinate solicitations of individual major gift prospects, often involving the President, Vice President of Development and Communications, and volunteer board and committee members.
  • Personally solicit select prospects and donors on a regular basis in accordance with fundraising goals 
  • Proactively research and  identify major gift prospects among the Food Bank’s existing constituent and donor pool
  • Prepare and conduct detailed briefings for the President, Vice President of Development and Communications, volunteers, or other staff members in advance of in-person major gift prospect meetings and/or solicitations
  • Achieve quantifiable performance objectives to ensure that the Food Bank achieves its full fundraising potential, using common monthly activity goals which include but are not limited to: number of proposals submitted; number of face-to-face meetings; the number of impact reports sent; and total dollars raised.
  • Document all activity in the donor database according to defined protocol to drive fundraising and key metrics reports.
  • Prepare impact reports and other cultivation and stewardship materials to personally acknowledge the impact a donor has had on the organization
  • Advise on and participate in Food Bank donor engagement events, activities and other outreach for the purpose of creating appropriate donor experiences for prospects 
  • Utilize executive staff, board members and volunteers as appropriate
  • From time to time, represent the Food Bank at community events and activities.
