POSITION PURPOSE

The Manager, Strategic Partnerships is responsible for providing coordinated leadership and management of key stakeholder relationships in the philanthropic donor sector to enable the program’s growth.

The role holder will identify and find philanthropic funding for the Program. They will undertake stakeholder mapping and implement best practices for private philanthropy engagement, including donor-related communications; the management of relationships with existing philanthropic stakeholders; the identification and engagement of new supporters; and leveraging existing relationships to develop a diversified portfolio of program support.

The Manager, Strategic Partnerships will also support the Director of Advocacy in working across the organization to identify and support a pipeline of innovative projects and partnerships that directly contribute to WMP’s efforts to scale Wolbachia coverage.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct profile-raising and targeted engagement and communications activities with key external audiences. This includes representing WMP at key philanthropic events and conducting the ongoing proactive engagement and cultivation of prospects and influencers on behalf of WMP.
  • Develop a portfolio of supporters for WMP's work globally and regionally (with an initial focus on the Americas and Asia), including identification of prospective supporters/potential new donors and the development and cultivation of key relationships to establish a support base for WMP through donor gifts and pledges.
  • Lead the strategic stewardship of existing high-level stakeholders with a focus on philanthropic donors. This includes communicating and reporting on WMP success and priorities and ensuring a coordinated and strategic engagement approach.
  • Manage a portfolio of projects and engage and recruit philanthropic donors for these projects. Identify ways to integrate partners meaningfully and effectively into the project work.
  • Collaborate internally to support the identification and pursuit of philanthropic grants and other funding applications. This includes identifying new opportunities and helping to coordinate engagement activities.
  • Stay well informed of program activities to enable the role holder to communicate effectively with funding partners, internal colleagues, and external audiences about the program.
  • Provide strategic advice and support to the Executive team to undertake key engagements with external stakeholders, including risk analysis.

 

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Education/Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualifications with substantial demonstrated success in development work in a fundraising/marketing context, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education/training and skills.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive experience of relevant work experience in corporate social responsibility, creating shared value, corporate partnerships, concept development, and/or fundraising.
  • emonstrated expertise in working with donors in the Americas and Europe is preferred.
  • Solid foundational knowledge of fundraising techniques and approaches.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute philanthropy (donor development) strategies for a large and complex organisation.
  • A demonstrated track record of successfully gaining financial commitment from philanthropic and other groups.
  • Proven ability to plan, generate and execute innovative fundraising and relationship management strategies across the full spectrum of current stakeholders, potential new donors and other interested parties.
  • Exceptional oral and interpersonal skills, including the capability to effectively engage and inspire a wide range of interested parties, individuals, groups, organisations and other key stakeholders and ability to persuade them to commit to a cause.
  • xcellent writing and editing skills and a portfolio of quality written products for a variety of formats (e.g., concept briefs, project talking points, concept presentations, proposals, etc.)
  • An exceptional ability to competently represent WMP externally at a very senior level.

 

OTHER JOB-RELATED INFORMATION

  • Due to the global presence of WMP, the incumbent will be required to participate in meetings which are not in the job-base time zone.
  • Travel both locally and internationally can be required, sometimes at short notice and for varying periods of time, to represent WMP’s interests. 
  • There may be peak periods of work during which the taking of leave may be restricted.
