The Vice President of Strategic/Planned Giving provides the primary leadership, individual effort and management skills required to design, implement and continuously upgrade the resources for Girl Scouting to raise significant funds through planned giving vehicles. As a member of the fund development department, the incumbent shares in overall responsibility for department-level goals as well as maintaining individual financial achievement goals for raising significant funds from a variety of donor sources.

 

The incumbent is also responsible to develop, implement and manage technical solutions and systems that enable the growth of fund raising efforts and results at GSUSA and Councils including the expansion of donor research to fully support GSUSA efforts and provide defined research support to Councils.  Provides educational support to Councils, with an emphasis on externalizing and regionalizing available educational offerings. For GSUSA staff, the educational emphasis is on practical, hands-on partnering. 

You Will

  • Develops, maintains, reviews, updates (as circumstances dictate) and implements integrated and multi-faceted and significant fund-raising programs through such vehicles as institutional giving(corporations, foundations, government), planned giving, and working with external consultancies. Responsible for meeting established donor revenue goals either individually or working in collaboration with Girl Scout Councils and/or other designated GSUSA functions. Develops and implements the strategy necessary to meet and exceed designated financial targets. 
  • Manage and grow donor portfolio of top Planned Giving donors and prospects that are (or could potentially be) valuable to GSUSA and/or Girl Scout Councils. Develops and implements programs to ensure ongoing contact with current, previous and potential donors. Individually initiates and maintains contact with selected individual donors.
    Develop, nurture and grow a movement-wide program for the GSUSA and individual Councils that will serve as an actual and potential source of gift giving and overall fund raising. Establish and implement the steps necessary to integrate the alumnae program into the broader fund development program as well as other areas of Girl Scouting as appropriate. 
  • Develop, maintain and continuously upgrade technology platforms that support the current and planned future growth of the Fund Development Researches and recommends new software, on-line tools, etc.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a robust research function within Fund Development in order to provide GSUSA and the Councils with access to and the ability to develop tailored reports from all available public information regarding potential donor sources. Select, evaluate and implement on-line research tools and programs.
  • Develops and maintain an accurate and up-to-date database of current and potential donors. The data base (including individual records and history) will be used to research, qualify, cultivate, acknowledge and correspond with donors.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with individual Councils as a way of providing fund raising support and resources and to develop opportunities whereby both the Council and GSUSA may benefit from individual fund-raising efforts. Provide the Councils with necessary fund-raising support in a way that benefits both the Councils and GSUSA.
  • Design, develop and implement a Movement-wide fund development educational system that can be used as a platform to consolidate and integrate institutional knowledge and experiences from within GSUSA and the Councils. Ensure that educational opportunities are shared with Councils and appropriate internal GSUSA staff. 
  • Promotes and contributes toward GSUSA's goal of institutionalizing pluralism by initiating and participating in activities and functions that enhance organizational diversity and in the research, design, development, and delivery of all resources and services in her/his area of expertise
  • Develop and build out an annual appeal and strong individual portfolio.
  • Manage and grow donor portfolio of top Planned Giving donors and prospects that are (or could potentially be) valuable to GSUSA and/or Girl Scout Councils. Develops and implements programs to ensure ongoing contact with current, previous and potential donors. Individually initiates and maintains contact with selected individual donors.
  • Contributes to GSUSA's affirmative action plan by ensuring and promoting nondiscrimination in every aspect of Girl Scouting.
Required Competencies
  • Demonstrated high-level customer service skills and experience relating to the contact and servicing of donors, Girl Scout Councils, external subject matter experts, and internal clients.
  • Experience in supervising an integrated project management team that combines fund raising activities, technology resources and educational development.
  • Direct management/supervisory experience related to Planned Giving programs including collaborative work with external law firms, tax professionals, etc. 
  • Broad people management skills including project management, performance management, coaching and staff development. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships and partnerships across business and organizational lines. 
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in developing, managing and adjusting department budgets as well as individual project budgets.
  • Comprehensive experience in developing and managing an internal research function focused on identifying and qualifying potential sources of significant gift giving. Includes the technical knowledge to develop and implement technology-based research and report generation tools.
  • High level platform and presentation skills in order to prepare and deliver targeted presentations to potential donors of large gifts. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to establish and maintain contact with current and potential donors.
Required Technical Skills
  • Significant experience in developing and/or working with technology and software associated with fund development including on-line research tools and data base programs.
You Need
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent in directly related work experience) in a field consistent with the Girl Scout mission (e.g., Communications, Marketing, Business, etc.).
  • 10+ years demonstrated and successful experience in hands-on (and significant) fund raising activities in a similar setting such as advocacy organizations, health care institutions, Colleges and Universities, Arts Councils, etc. using Planned Giving vehicles.
  • Certification in Fund Development a plus. Master’s Degree or additional finance-related course work preferred.
