Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Jersey’s leading academic medical center, is seeking a Director of Major Gifts to join its Foundation staff.  This is an opportunity to help grow a grateful patient program working with an entrepreneurial team within the most comprehensive health care delivery system in the state, Barnabas Health.

The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for managing and growing a robust individual gift program, focusing on expanding grateful patient fundraising.  Working with a portfolio of 30-50 major and principal gift prospects, the Director will cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and some foundation prospects toward a personal annual fundraising goal of at least $1M.  This Director will have supervisory responsibility for two gift officers, and will provide guidance, mentorship and strategic direction to the team.  The Director of Major Gifts will also serve as a strategic partner with the Foundation Vice President and the Senior Manager of Campaign and Development Operations on developing and executing initiatives to advance the overall campaign plan.  S/he will provide support for ensuring forward movement on principal gift strategies for prospects managed by the VP, including some briefing and proposal development.  The Director will be a key contributor to the comprehensive marketing efforts of the Foundation to help identify materials, communications and social media initiatives that will help identify and engage prospects and donors.

Successful candidates will have a minimum of five years development experience, with at least three years as a major gift officer with a track record of successfully closing six- and seven-figure gifts, preferably within an academic medical center or research university. Staff management experience and exceptional written and oral communication skills are required along with an ability to forge strong working relationships that engender confidence and trust with donors, physicians/faculty and institutional leaders. Individuals with a passion for the development profession and a commitment to health equity are encouraged to apply.  A BA degree is required.
