UCLA Development

UCLA believes deeply that equity, respect and justice are central to the character of our institution, to the health of our democracy and to the well-being of our world. We are a collaborative, interdisciplinary institution that works to solve complex social problems through education, research and service in partnership with local communities and leaders. In our commitment to grow philanthropic support dedicated to Black life, teaching and research resources we seek a Director of Development to work with academic, administrative and development leaders campus-wide across the broadest spectrum of UCLA programs.

As the Director of Development for Black Life, Teaching and Research, you will work with leaders across campus to organize, drive, sustain and promote philanthropy around issues related to Black life, teaching and research and will develop a cohesive multi-year fundraising grogram that leverages campus partnerships and drives innovative strategies to achieve fundraising and programmatic goals. Under the direction of the Senior Executive Director, Individual Giving, and with ongoing guidance of the Associate and Assistant Vice Chancellors of Development, you will serve as a campus-wide major gifts officer. You will be an active partner with the Foundation Relations and Corporate Philanthropy team, the Office of Research as appropriate and will meet regularly with senior Development leadership to ensure coordinated and sustained forward momentum in fundraising across campus entities. Through the building and expansion of new and existing programs, services and initiatives related to Black life, you will be instrumental in growing and sustaining a UCLA culture that engages, values and creates a sense of belonging for all.  In addition, this position will be central to addressing and bringing greater resources to the critical issue of supporting the Black experience and excellence.

As an ideal candidate, you will have a minimum of three to five years of progressive responsibility and experience as a professional development officer or prior experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development.  You will have working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising and the ability to plan, implement and administer complex solicitations at the major gift level or those of a similar nature, level and complexity.  You will bring to this role the ability to speak persuasively to the importance of racial justice and the need for advancement efforts for Black life, teaching and research in a university setting.  You have outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with a deep interest in synthesizing research and funding priorities as well as linking funding needs to donor interests as part of building strategic cases and alliances for fundraising. You are a strong self-starter who thrives on being collaborative, highly organized and managing multiple responsibilities and projects in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.
