Located in Sarasota, Florida, Nathan Benderson Park (NBP, the Park) is a unique 600-acre nationally recognized park providing public access to a picturesque 400-acre lake and an exciting world of recreational pursuits that includes North America’s premier 2,000-meter sprint rowing course and a world-class rowing site and recreational facility. NBP began hosting organized regatta competitions in 2009 and, in 2019, hosted the World Rowing Under 23 Championships which is a premiere showcase for up-and-coming collegiate rowers. Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates, Inc. (SANCA), the 501(c)3 not-for-profit established to operate, enhance, and manage the Park, seeks a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to create and build a comprehensive development program.

The CDO will be an essential partner to the SANCA President and CEO and Board of Directors and will serve on the Senior Management Team. The CDO must have successful experience planning and executing a comprehensive sustainable fundraising program, resulting in significant growth in philanthropic revenue. S/he will have a demonstrated track record in identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations. The successful candidate will create and execute a long-range strategy for increasing private philanthropic support for capital, park enhancements, and annual financial needs to support the park’s operations, programs, and events.

In addition to carrying a targeted individual gift portfolio of prospects, the successful CDO will work closely with the SANCA President and CEO, Board of Directors, Development Committee, and the Nathan Benderson Community Park Foundation on major gift prospect outreach and strategy. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and intellectual curiosity, and will be strategic, yet tactical, in their approach. The CDO will have the opportunity to launch a multi-million comprehensive campaign to raise funds for a multipurpose community center/boathouse, park enhancements, and program advancement. To date, the Nathan Benderson Community Park Foundation has pledged a challenge gift for the campaign. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to recruit and engage a campaign committee to lead the multi-million comprehensive campaign. The CDO will work with staff and volunteers to build an annual giving campaign as well as identify and develop a pool of major donors in preparation for the comprehensive campaign. S/he must quickly grasp the mission and priorities of NBP and synthesize this information into articulate and compelling cases for support.
