MIIC Project Advisor

Position Overview

Reporting to the Chief Fiscal Sponsored Programs Officer, the primary role of the MIIC Fiscal Sponsor Project Advisor is to advise fiscally-sponsored projects (FSPs) in support of their acceleration and growth. A relational role, the Advisor works with FSP staff leads as well as internal MSC departments to build FSP financial and operational literacy, and enhance their empowerment and organizational management. This position is central to the operationalizing of MSC’s commitment to transformative movement building. The Advisor seeks to understand FSPs’ operations and development goals to inform growth strategies.

The MIIC Project Advisor works in a team with the Operations Manager and the Chief Fiscal Sponsored Programs Officer to provide responsive and effective fiscal sponsorship services. Through collaboration and weekly strategy meetings this team identifies systemic service delivery and capacity building needs as well as growth and impact strategies.

The MIIC Project Advisor:

  • Partners with FSPs to meet organizational growth and impact goals
  • Provides responsive financial and operational literacy and capacity building education
  • Advises on and supports nonprofit business development strategies
  • Manages a dashboard of key performance indicators

The Movement Infrastructure Innovation Center (MIIC)

The purpose of the MIIC is to support transformational movement building. The MIIC’s fiscal sponsorship program is a home to visionaries, social entrepreneurs, initiatives and networks. Our innovative movement infrastructure operationalizes social justice methods, BIPOC-centered projects, local and national organizing, and community-based strategies.

Core Responsibilities:

Financial (60%)

  • Partner with FSPs to advise on and support nonprofit business development strategies and asset growth
  • Meet with FSPs monthly to review financial reports and health
  • Develop and provide financial education and trainings responsive to FSP needs
  • Provide proactive financial literacy support incl. online systems (Xero,
  • Support FSPs’ development and integration of budget planning
  • Attend weekly finance team meetings in collaboration of service delivery
  • Serve as a MIIC finance department’s liaison to FSPs

Operational (20%)

  • Maintain dashboard of key performance indicators
  • Provide organizational management support and education
  • Identify FSP operational literacy barriers and capacity building needs
  • Proactively support FSP compliance

Team Collaboration (20%)

  • Work collaboratively with other team members to develop, define and implement program strategies to achieve significant and scalable impact toward team goals
  • Identify emerging trends, opportunities and sustainable initiatives that can be brought into the MIIC environment
  • Contribute to MIIC programming, trainings and events
  • Provide data analysis and identify growth opportunities for the MIIC
  • Attend FSP events or activities
  • Represent the MIIC externally in support of business development strategies
  • Network with other FSP intermediaries to learn new or effective practices.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not supervise other employees.

Position Type/Expected hours of work

Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m PST. Daily schedule is flexible within the proximity of this time frame, and will be decided in consultation with the supervisor.


No significant travel expected. Occasional domestic travel may be required for meetings and conferences around the Bay Area and nationally. This position can be performed remotely from anywhere though being based in the San Francisco Bay Area is an advantage.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years experience working and/or actively volunteering in nonprofit, community-based, advocacy or public sector fields
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a leadership role managing operations, finance or development for a nonprofit
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in finance and/or accounting, preferably non-profit
  • Experience providing innovative and values-based business development strategies
  • Passionate about building the capacity of individuals, organizations, networks and sectors towards transformational, strategic and sustainable goals
  • Skill in providing capacity building education and trainings
  • Strong tech literacy skills, proficiency in Google Suite including Google Sites and utilizing online work productivity tools
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, while managing multiple projects with competing timelines

Position Type & Compensation

  • Full-time, 100% FTE exempt position
  • Annual compensation is offered between $80,000 - $90,000
  • MSC’s 100% FTE benefits package includes:
  • 20 days vacation leave per year (requires 90 day waiting period before accrual);
  • 12 standard holidays and 2 personal days per year;
  • 12 sick days per year;
  • 1 week paid MSC family and medical leave after one year of service; an additional week of paid leave for each additional year of service, up to 4 weeks;
