My Sister's Place is a community of staff, volunteers, and advocates committed to eradicating domestic violence. As DC’s oldest domestic violence shelter, we have served as a cornerstone of the District's response to this pressing public health issue since 1979.

Description

We seek an enthusiastic and innovative Development Director to join our team at a pivotal moment of organizational growth. This person manages all aspects of our fundraising programs, including ongoing donor cultivation, special events and campaigns, donor research, and other fundraising efforts; and is charged with expanding our foundation fundraising. This position reports to the Executive Director, and is full-time and exempt from overtime.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees all aspects of development, including major gifts and donor relations, annual giving, corporate contributions, foundation support, and special events.
  • Implements new approaches to engage, cultivate, and steward existing and prospective donors.
  • Works with Executive Director to cultivate and solicit major gifts, increase donor base and create a pipeline for future support and special projects, re-engage lapsed donors, and build a network of agency supporters.
  • Manages the development of MSP proposals and reporting to all funding sources, both public and private.
  • Researches, qualifies, cultivates prospective donors including corporations, religious organizations, civic organizations, and major donors.
  • Develops and evaluates the effectiveness of various fundraising and communication efforts, in coordination with the Executive Director.
  • Serves as staff lead with the Board of Directors Development Committee.
  • Manages one direct report, the Volunteer Manager and Development Coordinator.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • 5-7 years of nonprofit fundraising experience with a focus on donor relations and major gifts
  • Proven success soliciting and closing major gifts from individuals and foundations
  • Outstanding written communication is a must, with ability to write for different audiences
  • Experience and expertise using DonorPerfect or other donor management platform is a plus
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Team player who collaborates with others and is willing to take on administrative tasks as needed
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
