Executive Director / Philanthropy Officer - Southern California TAA Chapter

The TAA is seeking a mid-level development professional who is looking to grow professionally along with our dynamic Southern California Chapter.  This exciting opportunity is for a self-starter who has an entrepreneurial spirit and wants to set the standard for growth of Chapters of the Tourette Association of America. The right person will be tasked to help grow the Southern California Chapter’s budget and increase programming throughout region.   As a pilot model for our national chapter network, this position will have key annual fundraising and programming goals. We are looking for an agent of change who is also a team player.

 The Executive Director / Philanthropy Officer – Southern California is a full-time, exempt employee position. We are seeking a professional who currently resides in the Southern California area.  This is a work from home position reporting to leadership at National TAA in NYC with possible office space available through the Chapter in the future.

Founded in 1972, the Tourette Association of America (TAA) is the only national non-profit organization working to make life better for all people affected by Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders.

JOB SUMMARY

 Working closely with the VP Resource Development & Chapter Services, the Executive Director / Philanthropy Officer will advance the purpose and vision of the TAA in the SoCal region. This position will serve as a powerful and effective public spokesperson for SoCal TAA to broaden its visibility and to initiate and lead strategic efforts.  We are seeking an individual with grassroots fundraising experience, as well as experience in donor cultivation on all levels including individual, major gift and corporate support. This position includes the planning and management of key fundraising events including the establishment of an annual Southern California regional Gala, as well as develop fundraising walk/run(s), golf outings and other special events in partnership with the Chapter Board and the National Office.  Board or committee management is a plus. Candidates with experience working within the health/mental health nonprofit field with some programming experience is preferred.

Key responsibilities of the Executive Director / Philanthropy Officer include:

• Cultivate existing and new community relationships to ensure new revenue streams with year over year projected growth. This includes cultivation of current donor base and identifying prospective donors and partnership opportunities.
• Increase and maximize awareness of TAA, its programs and local presence in the SoCal region through development of community partnerships with local and regional businesses, community organizations, school programming and fundraising awareness events.
• Establish and maintain on-going donor and prospect relationships by phone and written communication and other personal contact including in-person and virtual meetings.
• Engage in face-to-face donor meetings monthly.
• Recruit, supervise and support volunteers in organizing local events for the betterment and greater good of the TS community in Southern California.
• Work closely with TAA Southern California Board of Directors to engage Chapter and Support Group members in regional and national initiatives.
• Work in partnership with TAA Southern California Board of Directors and National staff to meet and exceed Chapter fiduciary and programming goals.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Travel throughout the Southern California region required, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 5 years of experience within a non-profit programming and/or development office
• Event planning and management experience
• Experience working for a large nonprofit with a national chapter and/or support group network preferable.

• Bachelor’s degree required, with an advanced degree in education, mental health, or another relevant field a plus.
• Self-starter: Ability to multi-task and set priorities to advance mission delivery and resource development Action and results-oriented individual with strategic thinking and “big picture” vision
• Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills a must. Capable of handling diversified assignments and highly adaptable to change with poise and ease.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Travel required throughout the Southern California region. Nights and weekends as required.  Travel to organization-wide events within the continental United States required, as necessary.
