Position Summary

The Scientist provides technical and scientific support to teams across the Nature Conservancy as a subject matter professional on economic and social issues related to environmental conservation. S/he/they is a member of the Global Science Business Unit and works collaboratively on questions of strategic importance to the Nature Conservancy. S/he/they has research experience in topics such as environment and development economics, behavioral economics and human dimensions of conservation.  The position is open to social scientists with research interests in issues relevant to the Nature Conservancy (forests and biodiversity, water, climate change, livelihoods etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Recent Ph.D. in development, environmental or behavioral economics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience manipulating, analyzing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Experience designing and implementing socio-economic and behavioral research and collecting data through field surveys.
  • Experience in benefit-cost analyses.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Research experience in low and middle-income countries.

 

 Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge on valuation techniques and other social science tools applicable to the field of conservation.
  • Spatial analyses.
  • Knowledge of and interest in behavior science.
  • Experience writing grants and research proposals.
  • Experience managing smaller projects including financial aspects and coordinating the work of peers and partners.
