Southern Vermont Arts Center (SVAC) is seeking an entrepreneurial, energetic, and technologically savvy candidate to fill the newly created position of Manager of Events and Earned Income. The ideal candidate will help propel SVAC into a future of broader audience participation and financial sustainability by increasing events and opportunities for earned income. The Manager of Events and Earned income is a key position with both inward- and outward-facing responsibilities requiring interaction with a wide array of stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Restaurant, Gallery and Grounds Rentals: In tandem with SVAC’s exclusive catering partner, promote, secure commitments, and facilitate event logistics for high-profile catered rental events such as weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate parties, and fundraisers for area organizations.

    Work with Deputy Director to develop collateral and market events to the broadest audience possible Manage preparations and day-of activities, keeping relevant staff members informed Attend industry- or trade-related events to elevate SVAC's profile as an exclusive destination

 

Performances/Theater Rentals: Develop creative events and partnerships to utilize SVAC’s Arkell Pavilion for non-catered events. Theater events may consist of coordinating rentals from area organizations and educational institutions as well as working with external booking agents for performances, concerts, and more.

    Network with area stakeholders and organizations to maximize local interest Develop relationships and partnerships with performing arts organizations and/or booking agents

Fundraising Events: Work with Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Development Committee to plan, implement, and maximize revenue for SVAC fundraising events such as galas, joint-fundraisers with nonprofit partners, exhibition openings, intimate dinners, and other ticketed and/or donor events.

    Provide logistical, operational, administrative support for above events Serve as liaison between SVAC and catering partner Secure event sponsorships Develop event-related collateral and communications

 

Membership: Maximize SVAC’s membership program to expand our audience and provide an important revenue stream

    Develop new/creative membership drives and events Plan and oversee member/donor travel opportunities and other exclusive experiences, including conducting research, developing itineraries, and managing budgets

Retail: Revitalize and expand SVAC’s Museum Shop and Art Sales programs to drive visitor and member engagement, increase sales, and further SVAC’s mission to promote and nurture the arts.

    Grow SVAC’s base of Museum Shop artists and vendors Create online commerce opportunities for Museum Shop and exhibitions Develop new retail-oriented events Partner with area organizations, such as local inns and hotels, to promote SVAC’s retail opportunities

In All Areas:

    Track associated income and expenses and create required reports and analysis  Achieve annual revenue target and regularly report on status  Develop sales strategies and related marketing efforts Work with Executive Director on creating future budgets and institution-wide goals Perform other duties as assigned or required

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Executive Director, Deputy Director for Operations and External Affairs, Manager of Education, Manager of Exhibitions and Interpretive Engagement, Facilities Supervisor
External: SVAC Caterer, Development Committee, other external partners

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and at least three years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience Facility with software including Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Google Suite is essential Experience with relationship management software and/or fundraising databases, and project management software/applications (i.e. Trello), is preferred Event, sales, or wedding planning and coordination experience preferred Excellent written, interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to create positive relationships and communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds High attention to detail Ability to project-manage, handle diverse, simultaneous tasks, self-start and attend to follow- through Occasional flexibility to work evenings for special events - especially during the high season

Position Classification:  

    Full-time, salaried (exempt) with opportunities for year-end increases based on achieving revenue goals in key areas Wednesday - Sunday schedule with flexibility for evening events 

Working Conditions:
Ability to work in an open office environment subject to frequent interruptions. Requires a great deal of interaction with the public in person and via other means of communication. Involves some outdoor work, including walking from various buildings around campus. Must be available for occasional travel. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

 

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry file boxes and other awkward items weighing up to 25 lbs, including up and down stairs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching, and bending throughout the workday.  Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
