CEO

Planned Parenthood of Arizona is seeking a CEO who will provide strategic leadership and direction for all facets of the organization, including ensuring the quality of programs, best-in-class delivery of patient-centered care and education, and enhancing an equitable and healthy organizational culture.

INSTITUTION OVERVIEW

Conceptualized in 1934 and opened in 1937, Planned Parenthood Arizona (PPAZ) operates seven health centers located across the state with an operating budget of $16 million. PPAZ is one of the 49 independent affiliate member organizations of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). Planned Parenthood Arizona (PPAZ) is the largest sexual health organization in the state and serves thousands of people each year through health care, education, and advocacy. Planned Parenthood Arizona promotes and protects every person's freedom and right to enjoy sexual health and well-being, to make reproductive choices, and build healthy, strong families.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the affiliate's Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, delivery of services, and strategic plan of PPAZ. This role will require a proactive and collaborative servant-leader who will embody collective leadership and consensus-building and work alongside staff and stakeholders to build and deliver on PPAZ's vision. The CEO will play a key role in building and sustaining a staff and patient centered culture of care, respect, and trust within the PPAZ ecosystem. Notably, this leader will be intentional and compassionate with demonstrated practice that embodies a culture of equity and belonging.

Internal priorities include building alignment and support around a strategic plan, implementing initiatives to drive financial stability and improvements in quality of care and equitable patient experience; partnering with staff to continue re-imagining and building trust with staff, and ensuring stability and the institutionalization n of cross-department collaboration and day-to-day operations. External priorities include to repair, reinvest, and fortify trust and collaboration with PPAZ’s external stakeholders and ensuring significant presence in cross-movement advocacy across the state.

This person must come to the role with an understanding of sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice issues facing our state, country, and beyond, and be strong advocate for policies that enable all people to access comprehensive reproductive and sexual health care, education, and information. The successful candidate will have the ability to recognize the current societal urgency of the work, and act with collaborative intention and excellent communication skills, and must demonstrate their ability to inspire confidence in a team, patients, donors, and community.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

The successful candidate will bring a combination of the following qualifications to the work:

  • Passion & Mission Alignment: A natural advocate with a demonstrated passion for the reproductive rights movement and/or other health equity or progressive movements, either in a working or voluntary capacity.
  • Commitment to DEI: A record of successfully managing and developing a diverse and talented staff. Strong commitment to and understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion and the intersection with health and social, reproductive, and racial justice.
  • Relationship Building & Partnerships: Has played a key role in philanthropic engagement and fundraising. A skilled leader in managing institutional advancement activities and building trusted and productive partnerships with the community and donors.
  • Visionary Leadership: Experience as a thoughtful and progressive leader who leads with a bold vision, future-orientation, and executive leadership in rapidly changing and complex environments.
  • Staff & Professional Development: Experience developing staff and teams. Knowledge of best practices employed for change management, recruitment, and retention of high performing teams. Has successfully implemented an organizational re-alignment and/or a strategic plan.
  • Healthcare Operations: Ability to represent and manage a complex healthcare organization. Clinical experience is not required, but this CEO must demonstrate the ability to partner with clinical staff and leaders in decision-making.
