The Director of Development (DoD) for the ADL Southeast Region develops, implements and evaluates regional fundraising programs to successfully meet personal and organizational annual, designated and endowment goals. This role works closely with the Deputy Regional Director and Divisional Director of Philanthropic Outreach to drive and grow the Regional and Divisional donor base both in fundraising and engagement with the mission. The DoD owns a personal portfolio and oversees the full Regional donor portfolio, identifying and cultivating donors and prospects, and implementing targeted solicitation strategies to close gifts. The Director of Development plans and oversees fundraising events and special programs to engage local target populations and in support of ADL’s mission and initiatives.Responsibilities
- Plan, organize and manage the Region’s annual fundraising campaign in collaboration with the Regional Director, Deputy Regional Director, the Divisional Director of Philanthropic Outreach, and ADL’s central fundraising office. Write the regional development plan and create the development budget. Monitor effectiveness of regional fundraising efforts and evaluate programs.
- Organize and implement fundraising events, either directly or through direct reports and team collaboration, including corporate and professional dinners, parlor meetings and special events.
- Identify, cultivate, build and solidify relationships with new and established contributors. Analyze historic patterns of giving and develop strategies to encourage new gifts and identify new sources of revenue, as well as increase current contributions.
- Directly solicit and close gifts from major prospects and maintain relationships through mail, phone or in-person contacts. Oversee direct mail campaigns. Solicit grants as appropriate.
- Oversee the administrative support for regional development including ensuring that donor acknowledgments are completed and appropriate records, prospect lists and mailing lists are maintained.
- Recruit volunteer leaders for development committees and provide mentoring and staff support to these committees.
- Work closely with the Deputy Regional Director and full Regional team members to cultivate, manage and administer the regional board.
- Maintain and expand corporate partnership program based on direct solicitation.
- Write speeches, press releases and promotional materials for fundraising events. Initiate and respond to media contacts to promote an awareness of ADL fundraising events and honorees.
- Participate in programmatic events to define and enhance fundraising potential.
- Cultivate and maintain community relationships and community outreach.
- Recruit, motivate and supervise development team members.
- Contribute to regional management by participating in overall regional office planning and goal setting.
- Participate in special assignments or projects as representative at the divisional and national level.
- Participate in development-related functions such as marketing, design/preparation of print materials, event logistics, and post-event follow up based on individual skills and office needs.
- Strong organizational, management and administrative skills required.
- Proven ability to solicit and close financial agreements with donors is essential.
- A sound understanding of financial reports and budgeting preferred.
- Ability to effectively and confidently speak with corporate leaders preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information to donors, board members, and staff required.
- Comfort in working with colleagues remotely across the country essential.
- Technical competence required. Working familiarity and comfort in database systems, reporting, and analysis essential. Reasonable level of experience using Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and comfort learning new technology.
- A passion for the mission of ADL.
- Five to seven years of community fundraising experience in a volunteer environment preferred.
- Experience in direct solicitation and closing gifts required.
- Event planning experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Additional related courses or professional training welcomed.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary to represent ADL and to attend community events. Some travel within the region.
