The incumbent serves as the Executive Director in an ex-officio position with the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media Foundation, which focuses on the financial health of the school and reviews the Foundation-held funds and monitors the University-held funds. All funds are invested in the Chapel Hill Investment Fund held at the UNC Management Company. The Associate Dean is responsible for maintaining the official books and records for the Foundation, including the annual required audit and filing of IRS Form 990. He or she will keep all Board and Committee members engaged and informed, help create a culture of philanthropy on the Boards, and lead and motivate Board members to participate actively in peer networking to identify and cultivate new potential major donors for the School.
In conjunction with UDO colleagues, the Associate Dean plans, organizes, and directs fundraising, special events, and volunteer enlistment for the School. The incumbent has overall responsibility for setting and meeting the School’s ambitious annual and capital campaign goals, as well as activity metrics typical for a university fundraiser. This position will work to identify new revenue sources, especially those reflecting the new digital trends in the industry, while maintaining and expanding stronger ties with existing individual, corporate and foundation donors for the School and its affiliated programs including the Ida B.
