The University of Colorado Boulder's Law School encourages applications for a Director of Development! This position serves as a major and principal gifts officer for the School of Law, managing a portfolio of 100 or more top donors and prospects and primarily securing gifts of $100,000 and above. The Director of Development accompanies and assists the Dean of the School and other faculty on donor visits; advises donor research and prospecting activities with respect to their portfolio and others they may manage; partners with Planned Giving staff to identify, cultivate, and solicit deferred, estate, and sophisticated gifts of assets from qualified donors; participates in strategy planning and program development conversations; and may support reunion giving campaign efforts for 25th and 50th reunion classes.   The Law School Office of Advancement serves to support the mission of Colorado Law to provide students with a state-of-the-art legal education and prepare them to serve wisely and with integrity; advance the development of knowledge through scholarship, testing of new insights, and challenges to the status quo; and serve as a vehicle and catalyst for meaningful public service, all of which deliver high value to our students and have positive impacts—both locally and globally—on the legal profession and society.

Who We Are

Founded in 1892, the University of Colorado’s School of Law is one of the top public law schools in the United States and has over 7,000 alumni located around the world. The school is home to three research centers, nine legal clinics, and multiple nationally recognized programs including Technology and Intellectual Property Law; Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law; and Public Service Law.   The University of Colorado Boulder is in the planning phase of a potential comprehensive campaign for the Boulder campus. This will be the first campus-level campaign in CU Boulder’s history, with the public launch anticipated in 2021 - 2022, and the campaign concluding in 2026 - 2027, coinciding with the campus’ sesquicentennial anniversary.    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be    1. Serves as a major and principal gifts officer for the School of Law, developing and managing portfolio of at least 100 individual prospects capable of making significant gifts, focusing on securing six and seven-figure gift commitments. Regularly reviews portfolio to ensure appropriate mix of donors (discovery, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship) and capacity ($50K+). Develops strategic plans for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding each donor. Generally, fundraising expectations will be approximately twelve to fifteen times salary expense, based on rolling three-year average. Meets established measurable targets for each fiscal year (e.g., personal visits, moves, solicitations, assists and other metrics as defined). Travels six or more times annually, either in state or out. Geographic regions for this position are flexible at this time.   2. Prepares and supports the Dean of the Law School and other faculty and administrators for visits with top prospects, donors, and other key partners towards the achievement of fundraising and relationship-building outcomes.   3. Assists with donor research and prospecting activities, including active leadership in pipeline meetings for Law School development officers to review fundraising priorities and prospect pipelines, and to identify principal gift donors beyond the School's alumni.   4. Represents the Law School at Boulder Campus and CU System cultivation and stewardship events when appropriate. Assists with development of Law Advancement annual operating and strategic plans and goal-setting exercises.   5. Works daily to ensure timely, accurate completion of proposals, pledges and fund agreements. Documents prospect strategies and contact reports, evaluates new prospects and generates correspondence to cultivate major gift prospects.   6.   • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • Minimum of 3 years successful fundraising experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience in closing major gifts of $50,000 and above.
