We seek a leader to mentor and provide direction to a team of research analysts who are responsible for discovering prospects needed to successfully execute our comprehensive fundraising program. This candidate will have experience in pipeline development, portfolio management, and data analytics. The Director of Prospect Development and Analytics must have the ability to provide high-quality and in-depth biographical, financial, and gift capacity analysis for University leadership and the frontline fundraisers.

The successful candidate will serve as the liaison to the principal gifts team and is responsible for the strategic focus of the Prospect Development department under the direction of the Senior Associate Vice President of Digital Strategies, Services, and Analytics. We encourage inquiries from candidates who are mission-driven innovative thinkers that excel in fast-paced and collaborative environments.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Identifies, evaluates, and recommends current and potential major gift prospects.  Conducts research and analysis of biographical, philanthropic, professional, and financial information.
  • Performs quantitative analysis to determine capacity ratings based on financial data.  Tracks prospects and donors through monitoring daily news, online alerts, and utilizing internal engagement and cultivation of major gift prospects and donors.
  • Reviews and approves curriculum and content for the Ask-A-Researcher training series for development officers.
  • Prepares written profiles, event biographies, reports and lists to support the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors and prospective donors for the principal gifts team
  • Handles extremely sensitive information with confidentiality and tact. Directs the collection and maintenance of comprehensive information, ensuring accuracy and availability for use by development professionals.
  • Establishes, cultivates, and maintains effective working relationships with Development Officers, Foundation Leadership, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Planned Giving, and Donor Relations.
  • Creates, reviews, and implements prospect development procedures. Actively contributes to making the research process increasingly effective through regular consultation with colleagues and leadership. Evaluates existing processes and makes recommendations for enhanced efficiencies.
  • Enhances the understanding of Research techniques and procedures through effective communication and training. Represents the Research team at meetings both internally and externally.
  • Maintains expertise on research techniques and resources. Seeks to incorporate new methodologies in own work and that of the Research department.
  • Introduces, implements, or maximizes tools and methods to support effective prospecting and prospect management, including data management, analytics, data mining, predictive modeling and other appropriate metrics and reporting activities.
  • Supervises a team of professional research staff members with respect to hiring, supervision, training, coaching, developing individual work plans, and providing professional development opportunities.
  • Manages the research request queue; assigns all research projects; establishes workload priorities, workflow for deliverables, and unit productivity.
  • Administers an internal quality control process to ensure timely, high-quality, consistent, and reliable work products, consisting of first-rate content, with accurate, and impactful information and analysis Through the internal review of all research products, provides team members with editing and feedback along with coaching and mentoring.
  • Serves as a member of the principal gifts team.
  • Works in conjunction with the Infrastructure Management and Reporting team to develop strategies for storing and extracting data. Provides leadership for the processes of auditing and maintaining accuracy of the prospect tracking system. Consults with the senior development team in the creation of policies and strategies for Prospect Development as they relate to implementation. Maintains effective working relationships with other departments across the Foundation.
  • Establishes and monitors the Prospect Research budget ensuring prudent fiscal spending and oversight. Oversees the evaluation, negotiation, purchase, and renewal of research resources, publications, and services. Reviews resources for effectiveness, reliability, and comprehensive coverage on a regular basis.
  • Adheres to research guidelines and methodologies as defined by the Association for Professional Researchers in Advancement (APRA) as well as to the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Code of Ethics.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years progressively responsible experience in development research required, preferable in higher education environment.
  • Three (3) years supervisory experience.

Other Requirements

Must be able to drive personal vehicle for University and Foundation business (mileage reimbursed) and hold a valid driver’s license with current insurance, and a clean driving record. Offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of driving record, criminal, and employment background screening. Some positions may also require credit background screening as well.
