Director of Development, The Soraya

The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) next Director of Development will join a performing arts organization that combines growing philanthropic support with a compelling mission, programs and exciting plans for the future. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engaging individual who is striving to be on the front-line of a growing and progressive institution.

The 2021-22 Season marks the eleventh year of the award-winning Soraya which has quickly become one of the cultural jewels of the greater Los Angeles region as a premiere performance arts venue. Under the leadership of Executive Director Thor Steingraber, The Soraya's programs include a broad range of professional performances, brought to Los Angeles from around the globe and presented in a 1700-seat venue that is admired by artists and arts patrons as one of the nation's finest. Located on the campus of California State University, Northridge, The Soraya offers a vibrant and diverse performance program of nearly 50 classical and popular music, dance, theater, family and international events.

The Director will develop a comprehensive annual fundraising strategy and have a track record of competing successfully for philanthropic support in a crowded cultural marketplace. The candidate shall have substantial major gifts and corporate sponsorship experience, understand the unique and specific aspects of fundraising in the arts, and possesses knowledge of the arts, as well as the value and impact of the arts in the lives of students, young people and otherwise underserved communities. The Director will successfully steward and strengthen a broad range of relationships with current patrons and donors, and be sophisticated about developing new supporters for the Soraya and its strategic vision.

It is anticipated that the Director will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in building meaningful relationships with constituents that have resulted in closing significant major gifts. The Director will be a genuine relationship builder, skilled in the process of identifying prospects and donors, while gracefully moving them along the continuum of engagement. The Director will care about creating a donor-centered environment, aligned with the direction of the Associate Vice President of Development & Alumni and The Soraya's Executive Director and have a true passion for the performing arts.
