Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, the Program Manager is responsible for project management, and operational support for the Central Development office, with particular focus on supporting efforts to drive the success of the University's current and future fundraising campaigns. With a high level of visibility to key internal and external stakeholders, the Program Manager works to keep the campaign on schedule and progressing with momentum and confidence to achieve campaign goals, while also helping to build a cross-campus culture of collaboration. This position includes the possibility of working remotely from the New England region.

Essential Functions:

    Campaign Management:
      Serve as the primary project manager for the comprehensive campaign and run campaign committees by coordinating invitations, communications, and engagement activities. Develop reports on campaign committee engagement activities and communications as needed. Strategically manage the activities and projects between committees and the UMass Amherst Foundation Board. Provide both Advancement and school/college leadership teams with strategic project management support to move special and cross-college/unit campaign initiatives forward by information gathering, communicating with cross-campus parties, developing and monitoring plans, and providing appropriately synthesized information and reports. Lead all aspects of the campaign book project by directing policy development and ensuring appropriate approval and compliance protocols are followed. Manage the distribution of campaign data, track achievements and measure campaign progress by developing and initiating planning activities along with setting priorities and expected outcomes. Strategically partner with the Advancement marketing & communications team on major campaign marketing projects and communications to ensure a successful campaign. This includes the development of integrated marketing strategies and activity plans for key programs through website and social media updates. Organize plans for campaign cultivation events and ensure appropriate campus leadership and donors are invited. Track all projects generated from campaign committee meetings by preparing agenda items, ensuring materials are disseminated, and notes are recorded.
    Central Development Operations Support:
      Create contact reports and oversee strategic donor correspondence. Research, compile and prepare ad hoc Advancement reports. Prioritize and present the information in clear and concise formats. Manage and prepare the AVC briefing materials, talking points, presentations, and proposals for key meetings and events. Participate in meetings on behalf of the AVC and provide the AVC with a summary of key information.

Other Functions:

    Performs related duties as assigned or required to meet Advancement and University goals and objectives. Partner with Advancement Leadership, Marketing and Communications, and Planning Committee teams to achieve campaign related project goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree.  Over 5 years’ of successful professional experience in project management or related experience.  Outstanding project management and organizational skills, with ability to independently manage several projects simultaneously.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including executive-level correspondence.  Excellent interpersonal skills, patience, persistence, enthusiasm, and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff at all levels of authority, board members, external partners and donors.  Detail- and results-oriented with strong anticipatory instincts; demonstrates initiative and follow-through.  Ability to maintain discretion and a high level of confidentiality.  Efficacy with technology, including databases, spreadsheet, and presentation software.  Strong organizational and time management skills.  Previous experience working with senior level executives. 

Preferred Qualifications:

    Advanced degree.  Experience with a fundraising program, and participation in a major capital campaign, preferably within an educational institution, or other environment of similar complexity.  Familiarity with Advance, Salesforce, or similar donor relationship management platforms.
