Location: Remote (Chicago, Oakland, New York City, Washington, D.C. preferred)

Reports to: Director of Philanthropic Practice

Organization Overview

Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) is a transnational network of grantmakers committed to strengthening Latino communities across the Americas. HIP connects and convenes funders, nonprofits, researchers, and other leaders to identify emerging needs among Latinos as well as best practices for responsive and effective funding of social change. HIP pioneers new philanthropic models by leading collaborative initiatives and has provided grants and training to help build the capacity of more than 800 organizations and leaders. 

 

Position Summary

The manager will be a core member of the Programs team as well as a resource for all staff in areas of grants and knowledge management and best practices for our robust and highly responsive grantmaking across multiple program areas including migration and forced displacement, multiracial democracy building, gender equity, and others. The successful candidate will center equity and community-driven knowledge in this position and be creative gathering and managing information sources to inform decision-making across our programs. They will build relationships across internal teams and with our grantee partners, managing information about and from multiple program areas, creating shared processes and workflows, ensuring existing tools and databases are strategically used, recommending improvements to how we capture and understand data for learning purposes, and leveraging knowledge shared by our partners and the field to inform how HIP refines its work to achieve its mission. 

The Knowledge and Grants Manager is responsible for managing grants to ensure consistent grant processing in a robust, new grants management platform. The manager will also use grants management and other tools to support learning and evaluation and development of best practices, including supporting reporting to funders and contributing to how we shape knowledge and services and then communicate these lessons to the field. This position includes some desk research on core issues and trends, as well as supporting our grantee partners in sharing data, experience and lessons throughout their partnership with HIP.

 

Core responsibilities

    Oversee and ensure consistent and thoughtful use of grants management software, and support other team members in use of the system as needed Provide partnership and support to grantee partners during the grant application and grant management process (updating, reporting, amendments, etc.) Support integration of grants management system with other HIP systems and tools as needed Maintain integrity of grants data and work across teams to anticipate data needs Connect lessons from data and other knowledge shared by partners/members/peers and gained through research to support refinement of HIP’s practices, protocols and offerings/services Support implementation of learning and evaluation frameworks and practices, in teams and across the organization as needed Contribute to development and management of knowledge systems such as a library of partner-centered information, relevant issue research, and creation of knowledge products for internal and external audiences Prepare clear and accessible materials shaping complex data into easy-to-use items for communications, the board docket, and external facing reports and issue briefs Propose streamlining, capture, and other improvements to current processes or creation of other workflows that may be needed to best serve partners and the field Work with Finance team to ensure consistency and accuracy of required grants documents and financial information, as well as of financial reports of grants data  Support the establishment of communities of practice by planning and organizing grantee convenings, workshops, and webinars as needed Other duties as needed and/or assigned that support HIP’s mission 

 

Qualifications

    Five or more years experience in grants management and familiarity with databases commonly used in nonprofits (Salesforce, SmartSimple, etc.) Experience applying nonprofit knowledge management practices and supporting programmatic and organizational learning (or willingness to learn the nonprofit nuances if familiar with other knowledge management practices)  Demonstrated project management experience and success managing multiple projects and priorities at the same time; Ability to design workflows that focus on ease of use Facility with and enjoyment of online research Strong written and verbal communications skills, including experience with and/or excitement about presenting data creatively and compellingly The ability to manage confidential or sensitive information with discretion Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative environment while also possessing the ability to work well independently with minimal supervision;  Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and the ability to consistently meet deadlines Commitment to HIP’s mission and values, including racial equity Ability to work remotely with virtual teams across the U.S. and in Mexico City

Desired Qualifications

    Fluent in English and Spanish (HIP is a bilingual environment with a commitment to language justice) Familiarity with foundations and grantmaking institutions, intermediary philanthropy, and the role of philanthropy support organizations

Physical Demands and Work Environment 

Daily use of computer and phone for regular communications with staff and team members. This position can be a remote position or based out of the Oakland office (once return to a physical office is deemed safe).
