Designs and executes a comprehensive proactive resource development strategy focused on expanding and enhancing donor relationships and partnerships in support of the national and international work of The Salvation Army. Develops and oversees the national resource development program for domestic and international work; manages development staff; establishes and leads resource development strategies and goals in collaboration with the US territories; supports operations and programmatic initiatives; and works closely with National Headquarters and SAWSO leadership and staff and other Salvation Army international and domestic development offices to achieve the short term and long range resource development goals. 

Builds a robust and diverse resource development plan through a mix of individual, corporate, and foundation giving, working in harmony and collaboratively with the US territories.

Works closely with the national and SAWSO leadership team to assist in the budget process: creates a cohesive resource development plan with clear financial goals and implements necessary budgeting and financial analysis guidelines to coincide with specific resource development efforts.  

Supervises the Director of Corporate Partnerships and Director of Digital Strategy.  Builds, motivates, and trains a resourceful development team that works in support of the efforts of the leadership team and other Salvation Army development offices to achieve the short term and long-range development goals.  Participates in hiring, supervising, developing, evaluating and directing the work of a high performing resource development department.  

Provides leadership and management for all functions of the Development  Department and, in the absence of the NCRD Secretary, provides leadership and guidance to Publications, Communications and Operations Departments.  Serves as a National Advisory Board (NAB) liaison and backup National Spokesperson.

 Ability to travel domestically and internationally between 20-30% of the time. 

Education and Experience:

Master’s Degree in Business, Marketing or related field, specialized training in fundraising management highly preferred and ten years or more professional experience in managing development operations and directing fundraising programs of major large scale organizations, with proven success in generating high dollar revenue (minimum $1,000,000) from foundations, corporations and/or high net worth individuals. 

Fluency in MS Office, donor database software such as Raiser’s Edge, other fundraising software to include specialized research, web applications, and knowledgeable about the role of technology and electronic communication in fundraising.

Membership in a professional fundraising association is expected. National Society of Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE) certification as Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
