BASIC QUALIFICATIONS 

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ fundraising experience or equivalent combination.  Experience building and stewarding relationships with donors.  Excellent communication and writing skills via presentations, proposals, and reports.  Strong organization skills, sense of accuracy, and attention to detail.  Experience with event management.  Experience generating fundraising reports and interpreting the data.  Experience with database administration and spreadsheet software.  Experience in business writing, editing, and proofreading.  Experience working across teams.  Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

There is flexibility for the position to be based within the Florida Keys at either the CRF™ Key West or Key Largo locations. In addition to the applied functions of this position, this candidate is motivated, reliable, and displays strong core characteristics as outlined in the CRF™ values statement above. As a CRF™ team member, they think critically and are intuitive. They are able to adjust to changes and able to problem solve on the spot. 

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Donor Engagement Manager will work with all departments across the organization, including Restoration, Science, Education, Communications and Marketing, and Finance. The DEM will assist in meeting the Development Program’s strategic fundraising goals and will have substantial contact with donors – individuals, foundations, and corporations – and the general public on behalf of CRF™. The DEM does not supervise any staff but may supervise interns and/or volunteers. 

The position’s targeted fundraising goals will be set annually. 

70-80% of their efforts will directly support the fundraising strategy as outlined in the CRF™ Annual Operating Plan. The Donor Engagement Manager will: 

Craft compelling foundation proposals for grants < $50K and oversee corresponding reporting.  Provide support for local government grant applications and reporting.  Manage the stewardship of $1K - $10K individuals, including the generation of regular updates for this donor segment and the organization and execution of site visits to CRF™ headquarters, coral nurseries, and restoration sites.  Conduct meetings with donors for solicitation and/or stewardship.  Have the ability to determine a prospect/donor’s interests, capacity, and potential for helping CRF™ meet its fundraising goals, along with the ability to take action to move the relationship forward.  Give presentations to strategic audiences, both in-person and virtually.  Maintain CRF™’s $100 - $999 donor segment and recurring monthly donor program. Oversee the solicitation strategy, execution, and growth of these segments.  Work closely with the Communications and Marketing Program to oversee the strategy and execution of digital fundraising campaigns.  Craft and send necessary donor acknowledgements.  Manage weekly gift entry into fundraising management system.  Manage and maintain donor files and use donor database to track trends and produce reports on key fundraising data.  Use the available fundraising management system to produce donor reports, perform analysis and research, and track prospects and donors.  Assist with writing proposals and complete donor research.  Assist with other CRF™ events (site visits, outreach activities, cocktail parties, virtual events, etc.) designed to cultivate major donors and donor prospects.  Assist with other Development Program efforts, including event prep, donor mailings, and annual goal setting.  20-30% of time is expected to be spent planning and executing Raise the Reef, the CRF™ Annual Gala. Raise the Reef is CRF’s largest fundraising event and the organization’s most visible. The Donor Engagement Manager will successfully oversee the event utilizing and building upon the existing framework. Event oversight includes (but is not limited to): 

Coordinating with the Communications Director on the event marketing plan  Securing venue and serving as point of contact for all event vendors  Building the online form for ticket sales  Identifying and securing sponsors  Management of silent and live auction  Overseeing night of event flow  Coordinating with Volunteer Program to secure and train event staff  REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS 

Excellent communications in English, both orally and in writing.  Disciplined critical thinker.  Fast-paced and results oriented with the ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and competing requirements.  Maintain confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information.  Strong interpersonal skills: able to develop and manage productive relationships with internal and external partners who contribute to the Development Program’s goals.  A general comfort and fluency with technology, including demonstrated experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and donor management software.  Proven organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail.  Consistently demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor.  Deep integrity, with an unwavering commitment to ethical behavior.  Demonstrated interest in environmental issues and marine conservation.  COMPLEXITY/PROBLEM SOLVING 

Critical thinking to adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances.  Solve routine problems independently; consult Chief Development Officer for unusual or complex problems.  Coordinate projects with several variables, work within a defined timeline and budget.  TEAMWORK AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS

This position requires the person to be able to work well with and communicate with a diverse group of people including fellow staff, interns, volunteers, the public, donors, and partners. 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT 

Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain. Typical work week is Monday through Friday, 9-5pm, however a willingness to travel and work flexible hours and weekends is essential.
